About this deal

This YA novel is the first by Lily Meade and I hope we get many more from her. She is the best new author I have read this year (#1 out of 7) Can I also say the cover art is gorgeous? But then Sutton mysteriously reappears, having no recollection of where she has been or what has happened to her. She is acting weird and even the family dog who loves her most is cautious because something seems off. What on earth happened to Sutton while she was gone? Riley’s engaging and mesmerizing story of self-discovery and love...can be perfectly read as a stand-alone. This book will appeal to readers of Edwardian novels and Jane Austen-style fiction.” — Library Journal (starred review)

A hundred years earlier, headstrong and independent Flora MacNichol vows she will never marry. She is happy and secure in her home in the Lake District, living close to her idol, Beatrix Potter, when machinations outside her control lead her to London, and the home of one of Edwardian society’s most notorious players, Alice Keppel. Flora is pulled between passionate love and duty to her family, but finds herself a pawn in a game – the rules of which are only known to others, until a meeting with a mysterious gentleman unveils the answers that Flora has been searching for her whole life . . . This was the first of the Seven Sisters books where I liked the present day storyline just as much as the historical one. In 'The Shadow Sister' our historical heroine is Flora MacNichol, who I instantly adored for her fierce independence and love of animals. Flora's story went in quite a few unexpected directions, and I loved the appearances of figures such as Beatrix Potter. No.” Despite my best efforts, tears came to my eyes as I thought of the long, sleepless hours bleeding toward dawn, when I’d mourned my beloved father, still unable to believe he was gone.

Wow, I loved this. This story is a YA mystery/thriller that follows Casey, a high schooler whose sister Sutton has gone missing. Casey and Sutton did not have a good relationship and fought with each other before Sutton went missing. Sutton is found, and can't remember anything except for Casey. She has a completely changed behavior and now leans on Casey for help and support. Casey is suspicious that her sister is manipulating everyone and playing mind games, so she goes around trying to find out what happened to her sister. Travel through the lush English countryside and explore the magnificent estates of the British aristocracy in this next spellbinding love story in The Seven Sisters series by #1 internationally bestselling author Lucinda Riley. A hundred years earlier, headstrong and independent Flora MacNichol vows she will never marry. She is happy and secure in her home in England’s picturesque Lake District—just a stone’s throw away from the residence of her childhood idol, Beatrix Potter—when machinations lead her to London, and the home of one of Edwardian society’s most notorious society hostesses, Alice Keppel. Flora is torn between passionate love and her duty to her family, but finds herself a pawn in a larger game. That is, until a meeting with a mysterious gentleman unveils the answers that Flora has been searching for her whole life... I have previously reviewed The Seven Sisters and The Storm Sister so please take a look in my archives, you can search on my blog.

Asterope - known as Star by her family, has always lived in the shadow of her more outgoing sister CeCe. After the death of their mysterious adoptive father, Pa Salt, the 3rd and 4th sisters move to London so CeCe can embark on an art course. Star, who has an English degree but no vocation, feels adrift in the big city so decides to follow the clues left to her about her heritage - starting in a rare book shop run by the eccentric Orlando. From here she learns about Flora MacNichol, a feisty young aristocrat from the Lake District who was obsessed with animals and plants - but what is Star’s connection to Flora? Lucinda Riley was born in 1965 in Ireland and, after an early career as an actress in film, theatre and television, wrote her first novel aged twenty-four. Her books have been translated into thirty-seven languages and continue to strike an emotional chord with cultures all around the world. The Seven Sisters series specifically has become a global phenomenon, creating its own genre. The mystery of Pa Salt continues, and I feel I gained no information on that front, but I was still really pleased with this one, so much so that I went straight into the fourth (as I mentioned above). A hundred years earlier, headstrong and independent Flora MacNichol vows she will never marry. I sensed a layer of frost descending, but I would not give in to her this time. “I’m going to bed. I have a really bad headache,” I said. I lay in the water and lowered my head so that my ears and hair were submerged. I listened to the gloopy sounds—Womb sounds, I thought—and decided that I had to get away before I went completely mad.
