About this deal

But then Albie’s mother dies of cancer, and his world is shattered. When his father explains that she might be alive in a parallel universe, Albie knows he has to find her. So, armed with a box, a laptop, and a banana, Albie sets out to do just that. I’d love this book in all the worlds. Heartbreaking, heartwarming, heartstopping. Amazing.” —HOLLY SMALE, author of the award-winning Geek Girl series But outside of Albie's own journey, Edge is careful to use others to emphasize the powerful that comes with moving on. There's an understandable emphasis on just how challenging that process is, but it's a necessity to continue living and bringing creativity into the world. This is especially effectively in one of the universes, where the fate of the world is an uncertain one, but that act of moving on helps open the door to something that may change that very fate.

Sure signs that the creative wells are running dry at last, the Captain’s ninth, overstuffed outing both recycles a villain (see Book 4) and offers trendy anti-bullying wish fulfillment. One of my favourite parts of this book is Albie explaining the science and theory of his experiment. It was a beautiful mix of “that sounds like it makes sense” and “but it would never work and makes absolutely no sense”. The writer explained it in such a way that you completely went along with it no matter how ridiculous it sounded.

Escape Room

Albie reads his dad’s published research to learn how to go about it. The information on Schrodinger’s Cat helps. The rest involves a box, his mum’s prototype quantum computer, and a rotting banana. First he tries it out on his neighbour’s psycho cat. When it works, he tries it on himself. Reader’s will be captivated by Albie’s adventures in parallel versions of his own life and intrigued by the science behind his travels. A fascinating take on bereavement and sorrow. School Library Journal

Christopher Edge introduces readers to ten-year-old Stephen Albie Bright, the son of two high-profile scientists. But when his mom dies, Stephen goes on a journey to find his mother in a parallel universe. What follows, is an important journey about learning how circumstances can shape a person, what it means to look beyond surface appearances, and how it's important to keep moving forward. But then Albie's mother dies of cancer, and his world is shattered. When his father explains that she might be alive in a parallel universe, Albie knows he has to find her. So, armed with a box, a laptop, and a banana, Albie sets out to do just that. The Many Worlds of Albie Bright is a sci-fi middle grade that focuses on Albie Bright. Both his parents are scientists so of course he is named after a familiar scientist, Albert Einstein. Growing up with science he is used to questioning the world around him. When his mother dies of cancer it is only natural for him to question where she went. The mutterings of his father about parallel universes leads to a very unique experiment that includes a rotten banana, his mom’s computer, a box and the neighbor’s cat.

Summary

The Many Worlds of Albie Bright is an award winning science-fiction novel by Christopher Edge. The book has been thoroughly researched and makes reference to a multitude of scientific concepts. I’ll be honest, scientific concepts baffle me. I’m one of these people that accepts that the world is round, but then fails to understand how we can all be the right way up when Australia is clearly upside down on a globe. Schade. Denn das ist ja DAS zentrale Thema. Albie’s search doesn’t yield the outcome he longs for but as his journeys come to an end, a great revelation gifts him the courage to carry on with life without mum.

A poignant, funny, and heartwarming adventure, this extraordinary novel is for anyone who has ever been curious. Stilul de scriere al lui Christopher Edge este cursiv, captivant, reușind să transmită emoții și să creeze imagini vii în mintea cititorilor.I'd love this book in all the worlds. Heartbreaking, heartwarming, heartstopping. Amazing.

Fun science meets humor and heart in this adventure about a boy who is searching for his mother . . . in a parallel universe. His attempt to resolve his feelings of grief and loss puts Albie in strange, mind-blowing situations, and simultaneously incredible, hysterically funny adventures. Christopher Edge’s ability to string so many synchronised mishaps into one lucid paragraph is amazing. Proves the theory that novels about science can be enormous fun. Give the man his own element on the periodic table of children's authors. The Times, Children's Book of the Week When Albie’s mum dies, it’s natural he should ask where she’s gone. His parents are both scientists and they usually have all the answers. Dad mutters something about quantum physics and parallel universes, so Albie gets a box, a laptop and a rotting banana, and sends himself through time and space in search of his mum. What he finds may or may not be what he’s looking for, but he does learn the answers to some big questions. Edge offers an artful, touching exploration of grief. Albie’s first person narrative, inflected with references to science and classic sci-fi, will be especially appealing to middle-grade fans of the genre. Booklist
