About this deal

While I have tried a number of other emulsions, and they have all added to the moisture levels on my face in some way, none of them have really made my skin feel healthy. It’s a hard feeling to describe, but my skin just feels….good. I don’t get the itchy, red, irritated bumps like I was getting last winter, and I no longer want to claw my face off from tightness and itching before I do my oil cleanse at night. My skin feels healthier and more resilient. Interface is vegan and cruelty-free. All Stratia products are free of common irritants like fragrance, alcohol, and essential oils. But is Stratia Liquid Gold right for you? To help you answer this question, below we’ll give you all the details on the key ingredients in this formula, as well as the research that supports (or doesn’t support) their use in skin care. Growth factors are found throughout the body; they bind to special receptors on a cell to regulate cell division, creation, and differentiation.

Liquid Gold has 4% niacinamide, which is fantastic for helping maintain your skin’s barrier function, so it can trap moisture in better, and keep irritants out. It’s also had a bunch of other skin benefits too in clinical trials, like decreasing wrinkling, fading hyperpigmentation, reducing appearance of pores and decreasing skincare development. Overall, we think that Stratia Liquid Gold is formulated well and should help to moisturize and brighten skin, but we wish the brand would reformulate with a different preservative so that the formula would be paraben-free. Pros Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Ethoxydiglycol, Niacinamide, Propylene Glycol, 2-Dimethylamino Ethanol (DMAE), Panthenol, Hydrolized Rice Protein, N-Acetyl Glucosamine, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Tamarindus Indica (Tamarind) Seed Extract, Hydrocotyl (Centella Asiatica) Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Disodium EDTA. Sh-Polypeptide-1 and Sh-Polypeptide-11: the two Fibroblast Growth Factors which stimulate the growth of fibroblasts, the organelles responsible for creating collagen and elastin Stratia C&C Serum >> The Ordinary's Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% (I was thinking this or perhaps the Vit C 23% Suspension)Lipid Gold is a one-stop skin-saving powerhouse that belongs in every skincare routine. It’s formulated with ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids, the three main ingredients that make up your skin’s moisture barrier. No matter what shape your skin is in, Lipid Gold keeps your face healthy, clear, and resilient. Ceramides are a family of waxy lipid molecules that are naturally produced by the skin and are vital in supporting the stratum corneum (the outer layer of skin). Ever since I got a routine, I have been looking for products that would improve my barrier function. I don't know if my barrier is really compromised and I'm not over-exfoliated. It's just that I didn't have a skincare routine until three months ago and so I've just decided that my barrier function can't be optimal. So, I decided to give Stratia LG a go. After all, it has the holy trinity of ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids which is proven to help restore the skin's barrier. TL;DR: If your moisture barrier is damaged, this stuff will seriously change your life. Support an up-and-coming indie shop and repair your moisture barrier, all without breaking your wallet. I use this on nights of and the morning after I apply an active like Stratia’s Soft Touch AHA or when I use The Ordinary’s Advanced Retinoid 2%. I was using this daily as I worked to rebuild my moisture barrier, but now I mostly think of it as prevention and maintenance.

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Mandelic Acid, Propylene Glycol, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Panthenol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Matricaria Recutita (Chamomile) Flower Extract, Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Sodium Hydroxide, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate. Stratia Velvet Cleansing Milk Liquid Gold also has ceramides and cholesterol, two of the components of the lipid matrix that surrounds the cells in your stratum corneum (the top protective layer of your skin). It also has oils in it, which contain fatty acids bound up in triglycerides. There’s some research that found that putting lipid matrix components on your skin in the wrong ratio could make it recover from harsh treatment (like washing with cleanser) slower, but from what I can tell the right ratio is here. There’s also research that found that oils can act like fatty acids in this specific circumstance, so it’s likely to work as promised. Sh-Oligopeptide-1: also known as Epidermal Growth Factor, it stimulates growth of skin cells in the epidermis to strengthen the skin I think what lets this product down is the orange tint/tinge it gives the skin which means I am forced to use this in the PM and can’t wear it in the AM if I wanted to. And of course I have to be worried about staining white pillows. Because of the orange colour – it stains my pillow (could be due to the fact that I use a lot? but I don’t want to limit how much I use for fear of looking orange, I would rather be adequately moisturised, especially if this is the SOLE moisturiser I’m using in my routine.

The Claims

While we love almost everything about Stratia Liquid Gold, we were pretty disappointed to find that the formula includes two parabens. Parabens are preservatives used to extend the shelf life of a product by preventing microbial contamination. A final benefit is niacinamide’s ability to prevent and reduce acne due to its antimicrobial and sebostatic effects, meaning it can help protect against the bacteria that cause acne while also helping to reduce oil production. rc-container-wrapper .rc-template__legacy-radio .rc-radio__label { display: flex; font-size: 1rem; margin: 0; width: Peptides work as messengers to tell the body to produce more of something. When your skin is injured, your body will naturally break down proteins from the extracellular matrix to create its own signaling peptides, telling your skin to produce more of certain types of proteins to heal or strengthen the skin. Skin type? Recommended for all skin types, but works especially well for dehydrated or over-exfoliated skin

How it worked: And here’s where the other part of the title of this post comes into play. I have a long and glorious history of overexfolating my skin because…well, basically because that’s what I thought I was supposed to do. Physical exfoliants, all sorts of acids, inappropriately high strength retinoids…I would throw them all at my face at once every single day until literally my whole top layer of skin peeled off in sheets in the shower and I was shiny and red as a cherry. Even normally gentle products would sting like the devil, and I never questioned it because I honestly thought that’s how it was supposed to work. I’d fry the life out of my skin until I couldn’t handle it (so like 3-4 straight days of all this), then take a break for a week, maybe less, and then I’d start all over again. It was a roller coaster, let me tell you, and I did this for years.

Stratia is a Los Angeles-based indie skincare brand that’s formulated with effectiveness in mind. Alli Reed, the founder, has an excellent blog called The Acid Queenwhere she detailed her DIY adventures before setting up Stratia. If you’re looking for a watery, water-bursting moisturiser, then this isn’t it (I would recommend the Krave Oat so Simple HERE) But if you want a moisturiser that has some oil in it, some fatty ingredients BUT isn’t heavy and lets the skin breathe still, I think one may enjoy this. I’m not a fan of oily/fatty creams and the fact that I liked this and found it lightweight enough and used it everyday without feeling like my skin couldn’t breathe, says a lot.
