About this deal

You may see many natural flea control products available on the market for both cats and dogs. While these are great in theory as they avoid chemicals, they are nowhere near as effective as a tried and tested medical form of flea treatment or prevention. Flea combs do not prevent fleas and will not control fleas on their own. But they can be useful if think your cat may have fleas. Flea collars have growth-inhibiting substances in them to stop fleas growing, but most are not a reliable treatment option. Some can also cause irritation. Nobody knows whether this will happen with their pets, so it is always best to prevent using a flea control rather than have to treat. It can be common with cats. The product was administered to kittens at up to 5 times the recommended dose, every 2 weeks for 6 treatments, and there were no serious safety concerns. Transient mydriasis, salivation, vomiting and transient rapid respiration were observed.

Each company will provide a predosed pipette for you, and their opening mechanics vary. Some may have a simple screw top, while others snap at the end. Open the pipette as instructed by the manufacturer and have it ready. 3. Hold your pet If you aren’t sure who the owner is, a cat-safe paper collar is a good way to send a message home asking someone to call you. 3. Not waiting long enoughIf you think there is an issue with an allergy, speak to your veterinarian. What other cat grooming products should I buy? The product was administered to ferrets at 5 times the recommended dose, every 2 weeks for 4 treatments, and there was no evidence of adverse effects or undesirable clinical signs. Do not wash or allow the dog to become immersed in water or swim in water courses within 3 days after treatment. You should also have some form of grooming mitt or brush for cats to hand which can help with excess unnecessary itching, such as that from loose hairs. Some breeds of cat can suffer from shedding frequently.

Preventative flea control can actually be quite cheap for cats, which is great as seeing they are a regular necessity. Even though pet owners should be willing to buy all the extras needed, it is good for a customer to know one part of their healthcare doesn’t have to add up. Try not to stroke the area where you've used the treatment in the day or so after. If you accidently touch the area, make sure you wash your hands straight away.A collar can’t deal with many fleas (most just keep fleas away from the head of your cat, like a ring barrier) and are usually used as a preventative measure, but are not as effective as other types of protection.

Visibility – if your cat sleeps on a bed you may spot flea dirt or eggs. You may also see fleas on your cat if they have lighter fur Treatment of cats weighing less than 1 kg, and ferrets weighing less than 0.8 kg should be based on a risk-benefit assessment. Firstly, use a prescription product advised by your veterinarian. They’ll be able to weigh your cat and discuss their individual risks based on their age and other health conditions. They may even say that flea treatment is not needed year-round in your area. The good news is that after encountering your pet and their flea product these fleas should shortly die without reproducing. Sometimes the fleas may be hyperexcitable before they keel over and die, which could be what you are seeing. However, if you are still seeing high numbers of fleas or if you have concerns about the quality of your flea product then call your veterinarian for advice. Squeeze the treatment onto a few different areas of skin between your dog or cat's shoulder blades parting the fur each time if necessary During laboratory and clinical field testing, no interactions between Bravecto spot-on solution for dogs or cats and routinely used veterinary medicinal products were observed. Once they’ve grown large enough, the larvae pupate, spinning a camouflaged cocoon from carpet fibres and dust. In the pupa, they transform from this caterpillar-like legless larva into an adult flea with long legs for jumping and an appetite for animal blood. They may then hatch or — if they sense conditions aren’t right — they could wait in the cocoon, protected, forseveral monthsif necessary. None of the flea products on the market can kill flea pupae. Flea collars are impregnated with an insecticide that kills fleas and prevents their return. The insecticide used is commonly permethrin. It is worth noting that while this chemical is considered safe as part of a cat collar, it must not be used as a spot-on treatment. These products may be safe for dogs, but the chemical is poisonous to cats and can be deadly.

No adverse reactions were observed following topical administration to kittens aged 11 - 13 weeks and weighing 1.2 - 1.5 kg treated with overdoses of up to 5 times the maximum recommended dose (93 mg, 279 mg and 465 mg fluralaner/kg body weight) on three occasions at shorter intervals than recommended (8-week intervals). Over the next few days, groom your cat with a flea comb – if you find any fleas or eggs, drown them in a dish of soapy water before you continue Head to your vet to find out about long-term prevention of fleas via prescription-only injections, which work by interrupting the flea lifecycle at the egg and larval stage. This won’t affect adult fleas, so another treatment will need to be used in conjunction if your cat is already infested. The injections are administered every six months. They’re especially useful for cats with sensitive skin, flea allergic dermatitis or recurring infestations and are safe for kittens and pregnant cats. They’re a pricey route to flea prevention but are ideal for when other methods have failed. Dosage schedule for ferrets: one pipette of Advocate spot-on solution for small cats and ferrets (0.4 ml) should be administered per animal. Do not exceed the recommended dose. If you’ve applied flea treatment but can still see live fleas on your pet, you should resist the urge to re-apply the flea treatment. Doubling up on dosing can be dangerous for your pet, and unnecessary, if you are using already using an effective flea product. If you remember the flea life cycle, you will still be having pupae hatching in the environment with the adult fleas hopping onto your pet for a few months. This will deposit the treatment on your pet’s skin, where it can be absorbed and begin working as it should. 7. Release your pet and immediately wash your hands
