About this deal

Scottie's love interest, Irene was the star of the book for me. She was charismatic and blew life into every single scene she was in. Also I just loved her banter with Scottie. They had amazing chemistry and were afreakingadorable together. The way they slowly went from hating each other to slowly and begrudgingly understanding and supporting each other was wonderful to read. They had the same bad experience of falling in love with with someone who treated them terribly which sorta helped them relate to each other better. And I loved their big gay journey from enemies to fake lovers to lovers. Regardless, I was still so impressed with this book. I rarely enjoy contemporary YA novels so this was a super fun surprise <3 one of the book's strengths is its well-rounded cast of characters. scottie's angst is relatable, and her love interest irene is amazingly powerful. i loved watching their dynamic shift as scottie learns there's more to irene than her popular cheerleader mean girl image. their relationship is sweet and ridiculously romantic. and it becomes remarkably healthy, especially considering the fact that it stems from fake dating drama!! She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen is a highly entertaining young adult rom-com that highlights the importance of being true to yourself and learning how to let go and move on from painful experiences no matter how daunting it may seem at first.

Kelly Quindlen has become one of my favorite authors because I couldn’t get enough of her flawless and humorous writing. I am not ashamed to admit that I fell in love with the cozy and charming descriptions of the small town called Grandma Earl and I also have a soft spot in my heart for the down-to-earth characters who live there. This author has done a fantastic job of bringing Scottie and Irene’s differing personalities and their turbulent emotions to life for me. Even though this story was told from Scottie’s point of view, I didn’t feel as though the story was one-sided at all because the attitudes and the unique traits of the other characters came through loud and clear. Pros And My Favourite Parts My adrenaline carries me out of my car before I can think about it. I slam my door and meet her in the middle. “What the hell?” I think there’s a glimmer of recognition in Tally’s eyes, but she looks away before I can be sure. Um—anyway. Some game, right? I’ve never seen you that pissed off before. I think you actually scared some of my teammates. She laughs, but it’s hollow. Oh come on, Irene, put some feeling into it!” she chides. “Your girlfriend destroyed that game! Doesn’t she deserve a kiss?”

Customer reviews

Scottie was tougher to love. From what I remember, this book is in her first person pov and she says and does some things that quite bothered me. In the end, though, I was able to like her characters, especially how she is with Irene now. Oh, and Scottie is a basketball player. On top of that this had absolutely amazing female friendships. Both of the main heroines have the strongest friend groups. I love seeing characters who have friends in there life that support each other this fiercely. Everyone needs a Honey-Belle. (Also can I get an entire book for Honey-Belle? She’s amazing) PDF / EPUB File Name: She_Drives_Me_Crazy_-_Kelly_Quindlen.pdf, She_Drives_Me_Crazy_-_Kelly_Quindlen.epub

Danielle knows how devastated I was after Tally broke up with me, and how I’ve just barely recovered. Between that and her competitive drive, Danielle is determined to win this game at all costs, even though we’ve lost to Candlehawk the last three years in a row. We lose most of our games, but it’s never stopped Danielle from dreaming of a winning season. Irene turns to me. There’s a challenge in her eyes, but a question, too. It’s like we’re having a wordless conversation, and when I see her eyes flit to my mouth, I know what’s going to happen before it does. And I don’t stop it. Y'all, I loved this. Loved it, loved it, loved it, loved it, loved it, loved it, loved it, loved it!!!!!! Also like, this is a perfect book to use for the lesbian apocalypse. If lesbianism was a thing, this book would be the perfect model. ;PNeither of the girls showed any interest in men, yet they never once said the word "Lesbian". I used to never quite realise this in books but I can definitely see how harmful it is, so hopefully, this author chooses to amend that in her future books. A little sweet, a little sharp, this romance will resonate with readers looking for an emotional journey."— Booklist, starred review

This book was executed really well. The banter was lovely, the sexual tension was surprisingly good, and the fake-dating, enemies-to-lovers aspect was just delicious. My only complaint is that the book isn't longer and that the odds of a sequel are slim to none. Also, Spoilers Ahead; seriously Spoilers Ahead: It's set up that the main two characters have had intimate relations before they met, so why don't we get a scene like that involving these two? I wasn't looking for full blown NC-17 but something sensual without being explicit. The kind of thing that raises the eyebrows and causes the imagination to wander just enough that your motor gets running. Plus Honey-Belle is the coolest name out there, and based on her personality, she is literally my dream girl. Now, this could all make the book sound heavy and not exactly like rom com material but that’s where the brilliance of She Drives Me Crazy lies. Scottie’s difficult and messy character development and relationships are juxtaposed over the most lighthearted and fun setting and tropes, creating a perfect balance. Set in a small town named for its year long Christmas emporium, this book is merry and over the top and so much fun! This really shines through the side characters, particularly Honey Belle who I adored! She’s just sugary sweet and soft and exactly what you’d expect from a family running a Christmas emporium. The characters of this book were all so loveable and I particularly loved Danielle, Scottie’s best friend, and Scottie’s family. They weren’t always perfect and had some of their own issues but I loved seeing their relationships with Scottie and the way they all came through for and supported each other. I could speak about how cleverly written the characters and relationships were in this book endlessly but I’ll let you experience that for yourself! Hey, asshole!” I shout to the Candlehawk player. She turns around, scandalized. So do the rest of her teammates, including a bewildered Tally. “My name is Scottie!”

Discussion

Just a game? My voice is shaking. "If it’s just a game, why did you have to transfer to Candlehawk for it?" One thing I also loved about the plot was the way that teens were portrayed. Honestly I don’t really notice when teens are portrayed in a meh or okay way (as in it would have to be really bad for me to notice) but I really felt like this book captured so many of the stressful aspects of going to school and thinking about how the rest of your life is gonna go, along with the other parts of being a teenager in the modern world. Of course, there were still some cliche parts, but that’s to be expected.
