About this deal

Hence, Mistborn. A thousand years ago, the prophesied hero from lore rose up to overthrow a great and terrible evil. Only, he lost, and the Dark Lord took over and has been ruling with an iron fist for a thousand years. Ash falls from the sky in this barren land, and mists come every night, deep and mysterious. In this setting, a gang of thieves decides that the prophecies were all lies and that they can’t trust in some fabled hero to save them. They decide to take matters into their own hands, and plan a daring heist of the dark lord himself, planning to use the emperor’s own wealth to bribe his armies away from him and take over the empire. As Brandon notes in his preface, this particular story has been in the works for nearly twelve years now—begun even before he was a published author. At long last, we get to go behind the scenes of some of the major events in the first trilogy. We get to find out what really happened. And better still, you’re introduced to characters you won’t meet for real just yet. Character you know will take the story arc into new and exciting territory when we eventually get to the finale. This meta article is still missing information. Please help The Coppermind by expanding it. Mistborn ( Scadrial) Some sort of being with red eyes visits Suit in his jail cell. He ominously announces that they are going to end all life on this sphere. Then he detonates a bomb.

Kelsier realizes that Ruin's power is incomplete until he finds the Lord Ruler's hidden cache of atium. He watches the battle at the Pits of Hathsin and Elend Venture's death at Marsh's hands. With her husband's death, Vin sacrifices herself to kill Ruin. Kelsier's long-time friend, Sazed takes up the powers of both Preservation and Ruin, ascending as Harmony. Kelsier tearfully reunites with Vin and watches as she too chooses to pass on to the Afterlife with Elend. After Harmony remakes the world, Kelsier speaks to Spook and recruits his help in getting him a new "string" to the physical realm. He plans for each Era 4 book to be around the length of a Stormlight book. [16] Other media [ edit ] They head to Dulsing via horse and carriage. Before they get there, they discover a large, unfinished building near a village. Wayne manages to penetrate the defenses using another disguise, and the others join him. Inside they find some rooms and a large ship that has been slightly damaged. Wax and Wayne split off to find Telsin; Marasi and MeLaan try to find the spike. In another sense, however, this book is about the characters struggling to decide who they are and what they want to be. It is a much more personal book than book one was, with a lot of time spent on Vin and Elend’s relationship, Sazed’s faith, and Elend’s struggles to be a king. It’s about what really happened a thousand years ago, when the Lord Ruler took the power at the Well of Ascension, and the truth behind the coming of the Deepness. Still it was so great to revisit some of my favorite characters like Vin, Elend, Spook and Sazed even if they are just mostly in the periphery. But don't let that fool you this is a brand new story not just a rehashing of the original.During this time, Hoid arrives at the Well through the Cognitive Realm. Kelsier does not recognise Hoid from their prior meeting without his disguise, but is instantly distrustful towards Hoid. Although he engages him in a fistfight, Kelsier is unable to prevent Hoid from transitioning to the Physical Realm and helplessly watches Hoid consume a bead of Lerasium and exit the Well's chamber.

The first Mistborn trilogy chronicles the efforts of a secret group of Allomancers who attempt to overthrow a dystopian empire and establish themselves in a world covered by ash. Drifter/Cephandrius: also known as Hoid and Wit, A world-hopper who secretly enters Scadrial posing as a nobleman. Saying anything more here risks revealing too much. Even knowledge of this story’s existence is, in a way, a spoiler.

Marsh: Kelsier's brother joined the Lord Ruler's Ministry of Inquisition to help spy on them. He was eventually turned into an Inquisitor. At this point, it is a good time to read The Way of Kings, the first book in The Stormlight Archive, Brandon’s epic ten-book opus (four books out so far). Because I admittedly haven’t read many books in the fantasy genre apart from Brandon’s, if I hadn’t already read Mistborn Era 1 and Warbreaker before The Way of Kings, I might have quit. The learning curve is quite steep with the large cast of characters and mysterious lore, but there is a payoff (fondly dubbed the Sanderlanche), and it is well worth it.

Ranette: Wax’s gunsmith and a Lurcher (iron-pulling). Wayne once had a thing for her, but gave up on it after realizing that she has a girlfriend. Set about 300 years after Era 1, the Wax and Wayne series is about the exploits of Waxillium Ladrian, a "wild-west Deputy" forced to move into the big city who starts investigating kidnappings and robberies. In short, this isn’t the place to start your journey into Mistborn. (Though if you have read the trilogy—but it has been a while—you should be just fine, so long as you remember the characters and the general plot of the books.) Harmony(fka Sazed): Harmony holds the shards of Ruin AND Preservation, and as such is (one of the) god(s) of Scadrial.

Vin and Elend's arrival at the Well gives Kelsier hope that he will be able to get through to her, but as a cognitive aspect with no connection to the Physical Realm, he can't, so Kelsier takes Leras's knife and stabs Elend as the mist spirit to motivate Vin to use the power to save Elend. Despite this, Vin releases the power and thus releases Ruin and Kelsier from the Well. When he asks Preservation to help him stop Ruin, Preservation tells him to head across the ocean for help. Although he doesn't know this at the time, Kelsier has been sent to the southern side of Scadrial, where the people have advanced without much interference from either Shard.
