a b McAndrews, Mary Beth (August 15, 2022). " 'Orphan: First Kill' Director William Brent Bell A Massive Fan Of The Original". Dread Central . Retrieved August 16, 2022.

There is simply no one writing thrillers like Gregg Hurwitz. He’s a beautiful writer who dives deep into character but never takes his foot off the gas when it comes to action and suspense. If you haven’t read Gregg Hurwitz, you’re missing out.” —Lisa Unger, New York Times bestselling author of The New Couple in 5B Howard, Courtney (August 12, 2022). "In Orphan: First Kill, murder is more than child's play". The A.V. Club. Archived from the original on August 15, 2022 . Retrieved August 19, 2022. In a show of aggressive amusement, one of the footballers pounded his fist into the bar, sending a glass ashtray flipping up past Evan’s cheek. It shattered at the ground near his boots. I am sorry to say that promise was not kept. I hate to write a bad review, because I do not have the talent to write anything and the effort it must take to do so is something to be envied. This book is really not worth reading. There are some intriguing developments concerning certain plot lines, but the most significant is that Evan is not as sharp as he once was, which was an interesting change.

I love that Hurwitz is including Candy and others in the series. I like to see this network of independent people forming deeper relationships and depending on each other. In Darien, Connecticut, wealthy artist Allen Albright and his wife Tricia, who has since come to terms with the disappearance of their daughter, are informed by Detective Donnan that "Esther" has been found. Tricia travels to the U.S. embassy in Moscow where she is "reunited" with Esther. Tricia brings Esther home and immediately starts to have doubts when she notices that Esther has forgotten about the death of her grandmother or that her painting skills have increased enormously compared to before she disappeared. Leena falls in love with Allen after they both start bonding over their painting skills, and tries to separate him from Tricia.

On Evan’s other side, the footballers were stomping their feet now and chanting a drinking song. But his ear was tuned to the tale being spun by the onetime member of Sérsveit Ríkislögreglustjórans.

The Last Orphan is another well-crafted book. The story in Southampton was good but didn't stand out compared to some previous ones. I enjoy Evan's interaction with his inner circle more in this book. As a badass assassin, you can feel how nervous he is being around ordinary people like his 10-year-old neighbor, Peter. I love how Joey's attitude and personality drive him crazy and vice versa. Dog, the dog. It's nice to see old friends again, Tommy and Candy! a b c D'Alessandro, Anthony (November 2, 2020).
