About this deal

They moved to a part of Eden or Octagon that has previously been an Our Price Records, Virgin and Zavvi store - so that building is iconic for music and films.

Writing competition winner Emily was awarded one of the first prints of the Wycombe MONOPOLY (Image: Newsquest) Other leading High Wycombe landmarks to feature include The Golden Ball, Wycombe Town Hall, Wycombe Arts Centre, Adams Park, The Chair Factory, Hell-Fire Caves, the Eden Shopping Centre and The Guildhall. That venue was only temporary, whilst Newland Hall the school’s home for the next few years was refurbished. A two-week public consultation took place on which local landmarks should feature in the new game, which is made by Winning Moves UK under official license from Hasbro. Exactly which locations will appear is yet to be confirmed.Parker Brothers were acquired by Hasbro in 1991 and they set about seeking input from the general public in varying the game. It was announced on 14th February this year that High Wycombe had landed the honour of its very own Monopoly board. At the time, games’ bosses invited the public to suggest landmarks to feature on the board and 8 months later the board is about to hit shelves. Deputy Mayor Lesley Clarke shared her excitement on receiving the news that Wycombe would be getting its own board

BUILD YOUR HIGH WYCOMBE EMPIRE: Buy up colour sets and use your custom Monopoly money to expand your empire by building houses and hotelsTown Deputy Mayor Councillor Lesley Clarke only found out about the plans on Friday and said they “weren’t even allowed to tell family members” of the lovely news. These variants began to be introduced in 1994 and since then more than one hundred licensees have been created. The High Wycombe edition is expected to appear on shelves in shops in October (2022) in time for Christmas. It was not until the 21st century that Lizzie Maggie’s role in the invention of Monopoly was properly recognised. Locally pupils from the school can be seen in Matilda the Musical; Matilda the Movie; and shortly in pantomimes at Wycombe Swan, Chesham, and Aylesbury.

Bosses at London-based games company Winning Moves, who are producing the game under licensing from Hasbro, say a variety of factors were used in selecting the winning place. These include ‘Pride’; ‘Beauty’ and ‘Sense of Community. Whilst, High Wycombe may not possess Mayfair or Park Lane - it has not stopped the town getting a dedicated Monopoly edition. One advances players to Hughenden Manor to enjoy ‘the spring blossom’ and the money has been customised as well to include a motif of a chair in recognition of the town once being dubbed ‘The Chair Making Capital of the World’. Red roses and chocolates were handed out to shoppers in High Wycombe town centre, as well as signed Monopoly money by Mr Monopoly to celebrate. We are delighted to have High Wycombe celebrated in this way! This town offers such a rich variety of culture and community spirit, from a preserved medieval High Street with its famous market to the wonderful Swan Theatre, as well as a fantastic array of shops and restaurants.

Hobbies

The property sets will be themed around different genres. From shopping to sport, the arts to leisure – and lots more including a travel set on the four MONOPOLY train stations. That’s because High Wycombe doesn’t have a multitude of main line stations to select from like in the London MONOPOLY original.
