About this deal

One negative reviewer I read complained that this was “self centered” … well yeah, it’s a memoir. If you like McConaughey, you will likely find this to be an enjoyable book; he comes across as a vibrant, charismatic man who loves life. Matthew decided to leave law school because he didn’t want to miss his twenties preparing for the rest of his life. The Academy Award®–winning actor, father of three, and bestselling author of Greenlights distills more than three decades of journaling experience to help you reflect, seek clarity, and forge your own path with this life-changing practice.

Then there was him saying that stealing is not bad unless you got caught (he got it from his parents), come on you're 50 year old and if you think this is right then there is something seriously wrong with you. Matthew McConaughey has the gift of gab. He could easily be a preacher. I can’t imagine choosing to read the physical book and missing out on hearing him narrate. Is what he’s saying worth listening to? Sometimes. McConaughey doesn't gossip about celebrity acquaintances, women he's dated, or movie-making scuttlebutt - so readers looking for dirt will be disappointed. But folks wanting to know a bit more about Matthew himself will enjoy the book. Written with great intensity and rare candor, Greenlights is a whirlwind of wisdom that's as singular and fervent as its author. Read the book, experience the behind-the-scenes adventures, then pursue your own greenlights full throttle.' - Shaka Smart, head coach, men's basketball, The University of Texas at AustinWe must chase what we want, but sometimes we don’t need to make things happen. Our souls are infinitely magnetic. It is not about whether you win or lose, it’s about accepting the challenge. When you accept the challenge you have already won. This was said after he accepted a wrestling challenge from the champion of a village in Africa. I listened to the audiobook, and Matthew is a cheerful narrator who giggles and laughs when he's amused by some aspect of his tale. Matthew did well in high school, where he played sports, got straight As, dated pretty girls, and was voted most handsome.

Time and truth, two constants you can rely on. One shows up for the first time, every time, while the other never leaves. The first step that leads to our identity is usually knowing who we are not, as opposed to knowing exactly who we are. Greenlights: Your Journal, Your Journey is a guided companion to the #1 New York Times bestselling memoir Greenlights, filled with prompts, pithy quotes, adages, outlaw wisdom, and advice on how to live with greater satisfaction from Matthew McConaughey. McConaughey, the youngest of three sons, grew up in Uvalde, Texas with parents who were always fighting and making up.The good parts are very good--he is a gifted storyteller and this is one of the rare Hollywood memoirs that has a lot of great personal stories in it. Most of them occur before he becomes famous, but halfway through the book something changes. He goes from an average guy to a movie star, and that's when the book (and possibly his personal character) starts to fall apart.

been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Part memoir, part guide to life, part collection of extracts from diaries the actor has been keeping for decades, Greenlights by Matthew McConoughey is an insightful and intimate exploration of one southern boy’s journey to stardom. Born to ‘twice divorced and thrice married parents’, I loved reading McConoughey’s honest account of being raised in a turbulent household that was peppered by violence, love and humanity, I loved reading about the time using mink-oil as acne cream went horribly wrong, about the time a stolen pizza that led to a concussion, and about an ill-fated lawsuit that his father never forgave him for. There were a few points where I cringed, I didn't love him and his brother screwing around feigning blindness with a hotel manager as the butt of the joke. I didn't love his get out of jail bongo tale, too many people don't get that privilege.. I dont know, maybe those would have been funny stories if I liked the rest.. probably not, just not for me I guess..

Green lights mean go! We don’t like yellow and red lights, but sometimes they give us what we need. Made for the moment. We are all made for every moment we encounter. Whether the moment makes us, or we make the moment. Whether we are helpless in it, or on top of it. We are made for that moment! Before the trip to Australia he was never introspective. The trip forced him to look inside himself for the first time. He hopes to give his children an opportunity to find what they love to do, work to be great at it, pursue it, and do it. P.S.: 10 Goals in Life My suggestion is to listen to the audiobook so that you can get wrapped up in that warm, friendly, country-boy voice of his as if he is talking directly to you. My suggestion is also to listen in a quiet environment because Matthew is not an overbearing narrator.

There are points when he talks about lying and says that he was raised that it doesn't matter if you tell a big lie, as long as you believe it and it helps you, who cares and that's his personal choice but my thought on that throughout the book was what my parents taught me, "once a liar, always a liar" and "don't retell a lairs tale" so why was I reading one? To me this could have been a great story that he embellished and concocted and those are fine for bar tales but this is a biography and after he said that, it just didn't come off as honest to me. Hopefully, it's medicine that tastes good, a couple of aspirin instead of the infirmary, a spaceship to Mars without needing your pilot's license, going to church without having to be born again, and laughing through the tears. Ahhhhhh...I am totally listening to Matthew McConaughey! ❤️ Holy crap! So there is something to be said for a memoir where the author reads you their story. You all know the voice...but do you know the story? We develop our identity by process of elimination. We should get rid of the excesses in our lives that keep us from being more of ourselves. When we decrease the options that don’t feed us, we eventually have more options in front of us that do. Written with great intensity and rare candor, Greenlights is a whirlwind of wisdom that's as singular and fervent as its author. Read the book, experience the behind-the-scenes adventures, then pursue your own greenlights full throttle. -- Shaka Smart, head coach, men's basketball, The University of Texas at Austin Last night after an encounter at work I was using so many expletives in the drive home I finally understood what road rage is. Earlier that day I listened to Mathew talked about the bar fight that made him acceptable to his dad. He talked about punching his fist through walls when he had reached his limit with Dooleys. By the time I was in the next chapter I was done with the book. But I loved the gems Mr. McConaughey was dropping through out the book. Thanks to you I have several of those gems without having to read the whole book. Hunt, Elle (October 26, 2020). "Zen and the art of torso maintenance: Matthew McConaughey's guide to life". The Guardian . Retrieved October 26, 2020. Three things that will give you clarity, remind you of your mortality, and give you courage to live harder, stronger and truer.
