Gaviscon Double Action Liquid Sachet are a powerful, effective treatment for symptoms of heartburn and indigestion caused by excess acid and reflux. Some PBS medications are restricted and require prior approval from Medicare before a doctor is able to prescribe them on the PBS. This prior approval to prescribe grants the doctor the Authority to prescribe the desired medicine and have it funded under the PBS. Some drugs may have Authority Required (Streamlined) status which does not require an explicit approval from Medicare, instead the doctor can use the Authority code found in the published Schedule for a given drug/indication. The maximum daily dose of this product is equivalent to 51.15% of the WHO recommended maximum daily intake for sodium.

For all other infants give Gaviscon Infant at the end of each meal using a spoon, or feeding bottle. If you notice any side effects not mentioned in this leaflet, please inform your doctor or pharmacist. Not to be used when treating infants with known or suspected impairment of renal function as the sodium content (approximately 23.9 mg or 1.04 mmol per dose) may add to the risk of hypernatraemia. If you usually take Gaviscon regularly but forget to take a dose, do not double your dose the next time. Just leave out the missed dose and take your next dose as normal. Significant or sustained changes in bowel habit or stool consistency e.g. diarrhoea or constipation, should be investigated. Gaviscon Advance Peppermint contains calcium, sodium and potassium. Take care in the following instances:

Each 2 sachets (20 ml) dose contains 260 mg (6.5 mmol) of calcium. Care needs to be taken in treating patients with hypercalcaemia, nephrocalcinosis and recurrent calcium containing renal calculi. Hypernatraemia should be treated with oral fluids and monitoring of the infant's electrolytes. Severe cases should be treated by the cautious use of hypo-osmotic solutions. Mix Gaviscon powder (for babies and children under 2) with cool, boiled water or formula milk. Dosage Gaviscon Advance Peppermint contains calcium, sodium and potassium.
