This is one dead spouse book that the author worked to perfection given that both Bree and Eason lost their spouses in the same fire. What I did not expect was just how easily Bree and Eason fell into friendship and support, growing in characters and then falling for each other. I also did NOT expect the story to go the way the author took it and again, I freaking LOVED it. Add to that this could have been a melancholy sob-fest and it was anything but, definitely made for one fabulous read.

And now he's here. Embers is the first of his novels to make it into English (as usual, we lag behind the French, the Germans, the Italians and even the Americans). I hated that there had to be that stupid justification for the mcs getting together. It wasn't bad enough that their spouses were having an affair -- we had to have the kidnapping/embezzling/hired killer drama! Why not just let them move on from the tragedy and grow close and fall in love without the extra to make it seem less forbidden or more okay?! So I cultivate silence every morning. I sit in it, bask in it, wrap it around myself, and hear and feel me. Then, wherever the day take me, the people I meet are the beneficiaries of my having taken that time - they get the real me, not someone shaped and altered by the noise around me. There are times in your life you are flung into an undiscovered country of being, a place beyond time and tide and detail, the full magical breath of you heaving with the indescribable joy of being, and you realize then that parts of you exist in exile and completeness is journeying to bring them home.Peters, John (May 2003). The miracle is that we are here at all. Life itself is our greatest wonder. To simply BE is awe-inspiring. Home is the culmination of my hopes and dreams and desires. Home is a feeling in the centre of my chest of rightness, balance and harmony of the mind, body and spirit. Of the many meaningful and thought provoking words, sentences, paragraphs and dialogues in this book of meditations, I have chosen a few to share here. The basis of this story is absolutely phenomenal and amazing. I loved seeing different parts of lore intertwined. This is a complex story with twist and turns that you don't always see coming. I really loved the main character even though she is a little wishy washy at times, however that is understandable given her circumstances. I would be a whole lotta wishy washy myself. Plus I don't usually care for FMC and I really enjoyed her.. so that's saying something. The lore is steaming from several different things but they each have their own unique twist. I was a little worried I wouldn't love the romance aspect of this book, but I truly loved Bree and Eason together. This could have potentially been a five star read for me, but man... the hits kept coming. Like, my stomach dropped when I saw the first twist unravel... then, when the next turn came. It was a bit much for me. Even so, I truly adored a lot of this story. I loved the romance, the bonds the children developed and how it all ended.If you receive others as worthy, lovable, spiritual creations - perfect just they way they are - you get to see the highest possible version of who you are. You get to be that. Experience that. And you become a gift to the world.
