About this deal

Obviously this book had to come out when it does, because it's telling us about the pandemic after the event, she couldn't exactly have written it before the event. But I feel it would have been a really good book to have out during the pandemic, so that everyone would feel a little less lonely. In this follow up to The Lost for Words Bookshop (4 stars), it's been a few years since Loveday has inherited the bookshop, and she's facing a new challenge: the Covid-19 pandemic. Who doesn’t love a book about a bookshop? I loved this book, I really enjoyed the interwoven stories ranging from books and pandemics to escaping previous lives and relationships.

Dear Lost for Words,We are trying to stay at home . . . I am enclosing a cheque and I hope that you will use it to send us some books. Please choose books that we might think are wonderful.RosemaryLoveday Cardew’s beloved Lost for Words bookshop, along with the rest of York, has fallen quiet. At the very time when people most need books to widen their horizons, or escape from their fears, or enhance their lives, the doors are closed. Then the first letter comes.Rosemary and George have been married for fifty years. Now their time is running out. They have decided to set out on their last journey together, without ever leaving the bench at the bottom of their garden in Whitby. All they need is someone who shares their love of books.Suddenly it’s clear to Loveday that she and her team can do something useful in a crisis. They can recommend books to help with the situations their customers find themselves in: fear, boredom, loneliness, the desire for laughter and escape. And so it begins. Found in a Bookshop by Stephanie Butland – eBook DetailsI thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were interesting and well developed. The stories were compelling and woven together very well. Who is Henry? We ask this from the start when we see him outside on the street where Martha lives staring at the numbers hoping to locate a certain bookshop that seems to have disappeared. He embarks on a journey that changes his life, once meeting Martha. I will say no more about him for discovery is part of the fun in this story. Part of it felt like the author's personal recommendations, which was done through letters. So many books recommended. This was unnecessary. It was very repetitive. Overall, I'd recommend this book for anyone who enjoys character development/growth with a touch of magic.

What a lovely book – so assured and gentle, full of compassion and replete with astute observations of human nature and behaviour’ Carys Bray On the whole I found this book to be an uplifting read but there were times I had to put it down and take a moment, thanks to a couple of heart-shattering moments. This mix of experiences is what made Found in a Bookshop such a compelling read for me. I also really enjoyed the use of letters within the narrative, finding that they pulled me into the individual stories and I was completely invested in even the most minor of characters. With each letter, we remember a little piece of this time we have mostly left behind us: The neighbours who can’t come inside anymore, the families separated because they can’t travel, the bubbles, the hospital workers who can’t go home. And with it come the snippets of everyone’s lives: the neighbours who help each other out, the mum alone at home with a new born, the ones waiting for news of their loved ones in hospital, the domestic violence getting worse, the boredom, the stress, the anxiety. While books are not the solution, they can help. And so, on a daily basis, the staff recommend books to the people who write in.The bookshop's years of experience in giving the right book to the right person means that you can be sure that the volume that ends up with you, is for you." Overall, this is a unique and mesmerizing love story filled with heartbreak, romance, mystery, magic, hope and courage. I loved all the literary references and all the books within the book were just perfection. This kind of story reminds me why I love reading!💜💜💜💜💜 The perfect book to curl up with . . . It’s heartwarming, emotional and full of kindness. A lovely and life-affirming novel’ Sara Nisha Adams The first time I saw the book cover as I was browsing titles on NetGalley, I stopped and kept looking at it. It is one of those book covers. The next thing I noticed, was the title. I found it intriguing. I promptly requested the book and One More Chapter most graciously allowed me to have this advanced copy. I met Loveday in the previous book “ Lost For Words” and was captivated by her. I love stories about overcoming adversity and that was Loveday in the previous book.

It’s not all doom and gloom though, as they are hopeful stories and of course there are the book prescriptions themselves, which I loved hearing as Loveday or Kelly responded to the customers. In between chapters the author writes lovingly about books and reading, helping to lighten the mood when there had been dark moments.Stephanie’s stories are thoughtful and warm, written with much humour, and most importantly care. I’d recommend them to anyone, and especially those recovering from a broken heart’ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

This spellbinding book hooked me from the very beginning and I couldn't put it down til the end’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ To be completely honest, I read the title and thought - yes, I want to read a book about a bookshop. I didn’t read the blurb. I read this book in one sitting, it made me smile and made me wipe a tear from my eye too’ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ I come from Whitby and know York very well and there were countless mistakes regarding both places which really annoyed me and prevented me believing that’s where they were supposed to be. PDF / EPUB File Name: Found_in_a_Bookshop_-_Stephanie_Butland.pdf, Found_in_a_Bookshop_-_Stephanie_Butland.epubOne timeline is told from the point of view of Opaline starting in the 1921 in which she flees London when her abusive brother tries to force her to marry a man she has not even met because the family needs money. She uses her love and knowledge for books to get a job at the "Shakespeare and Company" bookshop. Again Opaline is forced to run! Unfortunately, she lived during the horrific times when women were considered the property of family or husband. The thing about books, she said, "is that they help you to imagine a life bigger and better than you could ever imagine." Each reader will discover life as it was during that time, and the hope that carries us forward. The next steps. The next connections. "It’s the state of mind and heart of the person reading it that will make the book grow into something greater than the words printed in it." The novel encourages us to remember that sometimes, to move forward, there are goodbyes, and many are goodbyes that we never want to say. But as we say those goodbyes, we carry the legacy of those we loved so dearly with us. Books refresh our spirits; we carry the words we read forward in our thoughts, hearts, and actions.
