About this deal

This was exactly what I wanted for my son. He has very bad exzema and this cream works wonders to put on in the shower Anti-itch ingredients are found in several creams in the form of lauromacrogols, a local anaesthetic that helps relieve itch. It may help to apply an emollient before and after swimming. Leave enough time for it to be absorbed into your skin before you swim. Please see our information here on obtaining an emollient that works well for you, in sufficient quantities, on prescription. Emollients and sensory differences

It may not be healthy to cut these foods from your diet, especially in young children who need the calcium, calories and protein from these foods.

When to apply emollients

Occasionally, your doctor may suggest using a topical corticosteroid less frequently, but over a longer period of time. This is designed to help prevent flare-ups.

You should use an emollient at least twice a day if you can, or more often if you have very dry skin. Bath oils are not often prescribed, but this is one situation where a bath oil could really help restore the skin barrier without physical touch. Once your son is comfortable in an emollient bath, you could introduce a leave-on emollient as a soap substitute. This may be a good option for a formulation with a comfortable texture for your son. Over time, you might help him get into a routine of applying his own emollients – perhaps with a reward system if he finds this motivating. Aqueous cream is no longer recommended either as a leave-on emollient or as a soap substitute. In addition to being a poor moisturiser it contains the ingredient sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS), which can irritate the skin and make eczema worse. Several emollients have been reformulated in recent years to remove SLS. Apart from aqueous cream and emulsifying ointment, no emollients available on prescription in the UK still contain it.AproDerm Gel is a highly moisturising gel, without the greasiness of an ointment, which actively draws and retains moisture within the skin and provides a protective barrier to help reduce dryness and irritation. It is also an effective pre-bathing emollient so can be applied to skin prior to bathing to prevent it from drying out even further, whilst protecting it from the irritant effects that can be caused by washing and bathing products such as soaps, shower gels and shampoos. This product can be absorbed by dressings, clothing and bedding which can cause them to become easily ignited. AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream, a light, paraffin-free emollient which has all the benefits of colloidal oat including protecting and restoring the skin barrier, soothing the itch, irritation and redness associated with dry skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, as well as having humectant properties and maintaining the skin’s normal pH. As well as being a moisturiser it can also be used as an effective soap substitute, to prevent the skin from drying out further. Caution: Emollients make surfaces extremely slippery, so always use a bath/shower mat. Grab rails are also a good idea if you struggle to get out of the bath. Use a baby bath support for babies under six months. Wipe the bath surfaces with paper towels or tissues to absorb excess oil. White vinegar is a good cleaning product for the bath. The bath can also be cleaned with an ordinary bath cleaner, but make sure you rinse it thoroughly afterwards. Warn other bath users that the bath or shower may still be slippery. Choosing the right emollient

emollients are an important and effective treatment for chronic dry skin conditions and people should continue to use these products. However, you must ensure patients and their carers understand the fire risk associated with the build-up of residue on clothing and bedding and can take action to minimise the risk

Account

If you're using a steroid cream or another treatment for your skin condition, wait 20 to 30 minutes between using an emollient and using the other treatment. Ask a doctor which one to use first.

AproDerm Emollient Cream is slightly richer than AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream, however, is still light and easily absorbed, whilst being cooling and moisturising. It can also be used as an effective soap substitute, to prevent the skin from drying out further. A GP will work with you to establish what might trigger the eczema flare-ups, although it may get better or worse for no obvious reason. Skin creams, sometimes known as emollients are used by many people every day to help manage different dry skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and ichthyosis. The risk of severe and fatal burns with emollients containing more than 50% paraffins was communicated in January 2008 and April 2016 via Drug Safety Update, in addition to the National Patient Safety Agency alert in 2007.You should be prescribed the weakest effective treatment to control your symptoms. Speak to your GP if you have concerns about any side effects. Antihistamines you can choose whether to apply your emollient or corticosteroid first, but ideally wait around 30 minutes until it has soaked into your skin, or apply the corticosteroid at a different time of day (such as at night) Emollients are moisturising treatments applied directly to the skin to soothe and hydrate it. They cover the skin with a protective film to trap in moisture. Antimicrobials (antiseptics) are found in some leave-on lotions, creams and assorted wash products. They destroy bacteria. Some people become sensitised to the leave-on forms if they use them for a long time.
