About this deal

Physicists are tough to find gifts for. They tend to want things that are practical yet unique and a little nerdy. Being a huge physics fan myself, I wanted to assemble this list of gifts my physicist friends would love. This collection will show them that you understand their love of physics and support them in their passions. In 1925 the expression under analysis appeared in an advertisement in the “Cleveland Plain Dealer” as mentioned previously:

In 1697, Abenaki Native Americans kidnapped a woman named Hannah Duston, her infant daughter and her nursemaid. While traveling north from Duston’s home in Haverhill, Massachusetts the Abenakis killed Hannah’s young child. They ended up stopping in Boscawen, New Hampshire for the night. As the Abenaki families slept, Hannah and her companions murdered 10 Abenakis – including 6 children. Duston and her friends then scalped each victim before returning home. [14] A subtle nerdy touch to a physicist's Christmas Tree, this 4-ornament set of four influential orbiting observatories makes for an excellent holiday-themed gift. The Hubble, Chandra, Compton and Spitzer telescopes have changed the way we view our solar system. Let them orbit your tree this Christmas! What could be a better gift for a physicist than a device that shows physics' awesomeness? Newton's Cradle is a well-known physics demonstration that is an iconic desk ornament. In a fairly elastic collision, this demonstration uses four or more suspended balls to show conservation of energy and momentum. It's a cool gift to help them show some character and express their love for science and physics! COMPOUND INTEREST. Rothschild, one of the world’s richest bankers, was asked at a dinner party if he could name the Seven Wonders of the World. He said: “No, but I can tell you what the Eighth Wonder is. The Eighth Wonder should be utilized by all of us to accomplish what we want. It is compound interest.”Historian for the state’s Intertribal Council, David Stewart-Smith, was frustrated, saying, “To have the New Hampshire Historical Society come out with a caricature of an Indian after all these years of us working on this issue … is just staggering.” The David Ortiz Bobblehead giveaway – meant to celebrate the player’s moving tribute to the city in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing – was cancelled by Red Sox President Sam Kennedy just 5 hours before game time. You guessed it: this floating pen is controlled by magnets, something only physicists truly understand! The pen's magnetized ring construction suspends it in place, giving it a "floating in space" effect. The body of the Hoverpen 2.0 is made from a single piece of aircraft-grade aluminum, imbuing it with a sense of high-end craftsmanship that is uncommon in pens. It's the ideal geek present for both home and office! But, there have been some Bobbleheads that have been anything but fun. These Bobbleheads have stood at the centre of controversy and have led to heated debate, great shame and, in one case, actual physical injury. 10 Einstein Gets Too Close To Marie Curie When Napoleon had the marvels of compound interest explained to him, he exclaimed: “I wonder it has not swallowed the world.” Compound interest, or “interest compounded semi-annually,” is indeed a remarkable thing.

The controversy was complicated by a second bobblehead the NHHS made of Chief Passaconaway. He actively encouraged his people to live in peace with English settlers when they started turning up in New Hampshire in the 1600s. He had also been dead for more than 30 years when the deadly encounter between Duston and the Abenaki Indians took place. The style of this book is entirely unique and a perfect match for a physicist. The Quantum Astrologer's Handbook combines history and science into an excellent introduction to quantum physics and the life of Jerome Cardano, a Renaissance genius who spanned many professions from medicine to mathematics. As a science book, this is as strange as it is beautiful and captivating. It's a biography, a science history, a quantum theory explanation, and a gripping story all rolled into one! Bobbleheads may be small in stature, but for many, they are a very big deal. Often made in the image of a popular player and given away by professional sport teams, Bobbleheads are everywhere. They even have their very own museum. Anything that's practical, functional or can help them show their love for physics. Here are our favorites:

The Physics Word Magnet set was designed with help from professional physicists, who chose words to make it both science-y and humorous. These are just plain fun! In 1905, while working as a patent clerk in Bern, Switzerland, Einstein had what came to be known as his Annus Mirabilis, or 'miracle year'. This proved to be a particularly ill timed event. A few days prior, Gabrielle Giffords was shot while holding a meet-and-greet outside of a supermarket in Tucson, Arizona. Marie Curie won 2 Nobel Prizes. She won one, in 1903, with her husband Pierre and one on her own in 1911. Together, they discovered a new chemical element they named polonium. The Curies work was instrumental in the development of X-rays. Marie Curie went on to become the first female teacher at the Sorbonne – France’s internationally celebrated university. [1]
