About this deal

actual footage of me battling the part of me that wants to make this entire review about Kev Merripen: BOTTOM LINE: If you’re looking for a romance with depth… you won’t find it here. If you’re looking for a romance with originality… you won’t find it here. If you’re looking for a romance with drama… you won’t find it here. However, if you’re looking for a low angst, sweet romance featuring a leading man that possesses all the traits you dream of in a romantic hero… then The Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas is the romance for you. At the end of the novel she saw how much she loved him and the fact that he did what he did to put his own life in danger meant he shared the feeling. So for evie alone she would want him to live.

All of this made me aware that the people I was reading about inhabit a happily-ever-after world that doesn’t bear much resemblance to this one. But again, my thoughts on these are just that — thoughts. My feelings, on the other hand, were completely engaged when I read the book. This was the most fun I’ve had reading one of your books in years. B. How i was happy to meet Cam Rohan in this book! The ambitious Gypsy of a very passionate romantic lover that has his own very book much later in "Mine til Midnight",the first book in "the Hathaway" series.I was surprised of his and Daisys passionate encounter, their kiss was unexpected, but i know that they aren`t soulmates.I really like the wild-natured 25-year young man in this one,it tempted me to re-read his story in "Mine til Midnight" where he falls in love with his Amelia many years later.Meeting all the other characters was a pleasure, and the ending when in the epiluge Annabelle asks Evie if Sebastian has reformed...the answer Evie gave her was so WONDERFUL that it brought a big smile to my face. Interestingly enough, the things that touched me the most about this book were not even related to Amelia and Cam, but Win and Merripen, which is who I felt the most connected to. It was heart wrenchingly clear that they care for each other – I’d even go so far as to say that they love each other.Evie had my absolutely attention in the first book "Secrets of a Summer Night" as i knew that she would be Sebastians heroine. The scene where she talks to a squirrel without stammering had all wallflowers staring at her with mouths open, and i was really fascinated by her glowingly shy nature that hided a very (as i knew) a passionate woman. To go to the devil himself in the middle of night to propose was very and...VERY brave of her.How i just admired her courage, how she wasn`t afraid of the inhumanly beautiful man with the look of a fallen angel..while he had the soul of a sinful devil. As Evie fell in love with imperfect hero..i fell in love with him too..OH Sebastian! I want to fill every part of you...breathe the air from your lungs...leave my handprint on your soul. I want to give you more pleasure than you can bear. I want to make love to you, Evie, as I have never done with anyone before." A re-read of one of my favourite books is something I will always enjoy. Now that I'm a fan of audiobooks, it has become even more enthralling. I'm experiencing the book through another's eyes. If the narrator is good, they can portray the highs and lows exactly the right way. Rosalyn Landor has become my favourite narrator in historical romances. Her voice is soothing, her ability to change characters is seamless and accents seem no obstacle. I am carried away while listening to the story and she makes me see things I miss when reading.

I did it. And I'm not sorry. I think I needed a little something to prove there's a reason to read this author after the disappointing Ravenel series thus far. Not sure this is gonna help when it comes to Phoebe and West though. It’s no wonder that Devil in Winter is a Kleypas fan favorite and historical romance reader’s dream. The beautiful, touching, and evocative love story of awkwardly shy wallflower with profound, quiet inner strength, Evangeline Jenner, and dashing libertine and unscrupulous, villainous rake Sebastian, Viscount St. Vincent, is absolute magic. Verrry big 5 stars for this remarkable, beautifully romantic, top favorite, keeper! What I loved and didn’t love: Amelia. Dear, sweet Amelia; what an interesting character she turned out to be. In fact, the very thing I admired most about Amelia is that which I also disliked about her. She’s a take charge kind of woman, getting the job done no matter the cost to her own happiness. Willing to set aside any hope for a marriage for herself, she set about trying to ensure the best possible future for her brother and sisters. She was very protective of the family, which in some ways is good, but we all know that you have to let people learn lessons on their own, sometimes. Amelia was so concerned about protecting them that she wasn’t letting them live. She was suffocating them. And even when Cam came along, offering to help share her burden, she kept refusing. She had some twisted sense of obligation and responsibility for the family that made me want to throttle her with my bare hands! Fortunately, that didn’t last too long and she eventually saw the error of her ways.In fact, one of my disappointments with It Happened One Autumn was that I had hoped Sebastian would have more teeth in that book. If anything, he seemed almost harmless to me, despite his kidnapping and threatening of Lillian.

Amelia's somewhat bad-tempered moments are refreshing. I like sweet heroines a lot more than some readers, but it's also nice to see heroines who do have bad days and temperamental moments. Who do get frustrated and say things in anger. Amelia has a lot of responsibility and stress, and it was realistic for her to have moments where she showed that her nerves were frayed. Cam seemed to embrace her outspoken and at times somewhat abrasive behavior, enjoying that part of her equally with other aspects of her person. He was considerate to her needs, understanding her fears and doubts, and did everything he could to help her family, even before he had committed to marrying her. I'd have never thought to find that kind of emotional connection or torment in a secondary relationship, but that scene, the way it was so poignantly written, will stay with me for years and years to come. However, I adored this story so much that I couldn't even be bothered to mind that. I loved everything about it. Watching Sebastian slowly and unwillingly fall for the beautiful Evie. Watching Evie slowly grow into her own and become a strong and completely endearing heroine. The Hathaways are an entertaining family, each sister having a distinct personality that I hope to see more of. There were moments that their sisterly interactions reminded me of one of my favorite books, Little Women. You can guess who Win reminded me a little of.

More From the Same

The rest of the book set up the future stories in this series quite well. I'm dying to know more about Merripen, and his possible connection to Cam (they have the same winged horse tattoo). I'm dying to know if Leo will get his act together before it's too late. I'm curious to see if Win will ever regain her health enough to see all her dreams for the future come true. Poppy seems like a level-headed girl (so far), and I'm interested to see how she fares in her first "season". Beatrix? I had a hard time believing she was 15--her antics (and the way her family treated her) made it seem like she was way younger. She seems like she's the strangest one in the whole Hathaway family, so I'm sure her story will be unique! The characters are pretty solid though Leo needs to stop acting like he's the only person in history that has lost something 🙄 He cradled the side of her face in his palm. “Evie,” he murmured. “I swear on my life, you will never feel pain from my hands. I may prove a devil of a husband in every other regard…but I wouldn’t hurt you that way. You must believe that.” I loved Cam Roham since his first appearance in 'Devil in Winter', so I was more than thrilled when Kleypas made him the 1st hero in her new Hathaway series. Unfortunately, his story didn´t live up to my expectations. Don´t get me wrong, Cam was still as interesting as ever in 'Mine Till Midnight', but little else was up to par. :(
