About this deal

For whatever reason I seem to read quite a few ship/boat books. Normally non-fiction, but nevertheless, it is a bit strange, as I am not in the slightest interested in going sailing/boating. I don't mind a bit of fishing, but on a boat it is normally balanced with an hour of looking a bit green, and staring at the horizon, regretting eating breakfast prior to fishing. My worst nightmare would be one of those Southern Ocean Antarctic stormy sea in a small boat 'adventures', few people, freezing cold, soaking wet, god I feel like I have pneumonia already, etc...

The second mate: "He was one of those men who...are competent enough, appear hopelessly hard up, show no evidence of any kind of vice, and carry about with them all the signs of manifest failure." I didn't set out thinking I'll write a book I set out thinking I'll just write up these diaries and with a bit of encouragement from friends and family it became a book. People see the jets taking off, they see them land but maybe what they don't know is what is going through the pilot's mind at various different points before you go, if you're nervous about something, the relationships, the importance of teamwork all of those themes. That is really what I hoped to bring out when I was writing the book." Typhoon brings to life the exhilarating and exacting world of a fighter squadron at war like never before.

The hurricane, with its power to madden the seas, to sink ships, to uproot trees, to overturn strong walls and dash the very birds of the air to the ground, had found this taciturn man in its path, and, doing its utmost, had managed to wring out a few words. Before the renewed wrath of winds swooped on his ship, Captain MacWhirr was moved to declare, in a tone of vexation, as it were: “I wouldn't like to lose her.” The thrilling account of the Typhoon FGR4s in the war against ISIS, from the RAF Wing Commander who led them into combat The title TYPHOON refers to a covert operation to undermine the Chinese political and economic state by arming and assisting ethnic groups in self-determination, ostensibly raising human rights abuses of the Muslim minority, but it has little to do with altruism and the more pragmatic: to gain a foothold in the oil and gas rich province of Xinjiang, in western China. That is Miles’ main game, but as an individual he cannot help but covet Joe’s girlfriend, Isabella. A thriller that has everything you could ask for – a twisty, sexy plot, topical themes, memorable characters and plentiful spy lore’ Sunday Times, Books of the Year

A fabulous insight into the mind of an accomplished fighter pilot and leader as he takes on the biggest challenge of his career' FLYER

Who broke the internet?

The novel starts in the future with Joe Lennox a british spy asking one of his agents, the narrator, to write a story about the Typhoon operation. Stylistically, Conrad made "perhaps the most celebrated ellipsis in modern short fiction". [1] At the end of chapter V the story reaches a climactic point, the ship barely makes it into the eye of the typhoon and faces a final challenge to exit the storm through the eye wall. Conrad once dictated to biographer and friend Richard Curle a list of ships he served on, and the stories they were connected to—the connections might have been minor (a single character or incident) or major (a complete voyage), Conrad did not indicate. For Typhoon he said it "suggested" the steamer John P. Best which he served on. [4] [5]
