About this deal

The final model is one I’m very happy with, and that I think very effectively matches up with the 2nd edition codex style. The decision to list these specific armies is based on the aesthetic of the armies and how Averland Sunset can be used to enhance the look of the troops and machinery of these factions. The scales are one of the defining features of 2nd edition Alpha Legion army. I painted these by freehanding thin “U” shapes on the model’s greaves and shoulder pad with The Fang, then I highlight them a bit at the bottom of the U with Reaper Snow Shadow.

Using Colour Forge primers is straightforward. Colour Forge primers share the same caps as Citadel spray paints but the cans have more pressure, so I found it’s easy to apply too much paint. As the paint goes on rather wet, I wonder if there might be a bit too much propellant in the cans. Fortunately, Colour Forge primers are rather forgiving and the paint levels itself a lot. Nevertheless, for the best results, I recommend increasing the spray distance to about 25 cm, applying only a few short bursts before letting the miniature dry for the next coat. When painting a miniature, your job is to exaggerate the shape of the thing so that it makes visual sense when it’s about two feet away, sitting on a table and looking pretty. This is often achieved by edge highlighting and by zenithal shading (meaning that you paint the miniature as if lit from above, because most of the time, it will be lit from above). This increases the contrast and makes your miniature pop. Since freehand is, you know, flat , you’re going to have to decide where the light source in the image is. This is particularly true if you are depicting any reflective surfaces. This also helps you figure out where you should shade, and where you should highlight. Averland Sunset is a popular colour from Citadel Colours, a brand known for its high-quality paints for miniature figurines and tabletop games. This particular shade is a warm, muted yellow with a slightly orange-ish cast, and is often used as a base coat or as a highlight colour.Author’s Note: I painted my Vostroyans 12 years ago and some things have changed. More spray paint colors are available but older Citadel Colors like Rotting Flesh paint are no more. You can substitute with Putrid Green from Coat D’Arms or a slightly greener paint in the form of Ogryn Camo. I’m not wasting a metal model on a Word Bearer; for this we’re rescuing an old 2nd edition plastic Chaos Space Marine. These models are awful by the way – they’re stunty, have bad details, and only have two poses. Also, they were the only plastic chaos marines you could buy from like, 1995 until the Plastic Berserkers came out in 1998 and everyone started converting those for use as regular CSMs. The greenstuff bands on the model are 14 year-old Rob’s attempts to make the model stand out a bit. They’re not great. Chaos Space Marines: Averland Sunset can be used to paint the armour and weapons, including the power armour, bolt guns, and other equipment. It can also be used to paint the skin and clothing of daemonic creatures and other characters associated with Chaos.

Red badges: Mephiston Red, Nuln Oil in the eyes and such, and Evil Sunz Scarlet highlights. With officers I tried to incorporate more red in sashes and such, painted the same way. Vehicles My goal for these three was to use the yellows uniquely for each one. I wanted MODOK to have a transition of dark to lighter yellow, Wasp to pop with a nice bright yellow, and Wolverine to have a bit of a transition. I found success on MODOK and Wasp, but I wasn’t super happy with Wolverine as I made some tactical errors in application that I can show off. I think he still looked cool, but I ended up repainting him entirely which I’ll show below. Starting two weeks ago, I started on my Crisis Protocol journey again! I went out and bought a bunch of new Vallejo paint and set out to complete a new goal: paint all these models – and flex my painting muscles in ways I never get to with Space Marines. So here’s some examples of the fruits of my labor and some guides. MODOK, Wasp, and Wolverine – Learning to Paint Yellow There is a lifetime of study to be had in traditional 2D painting. I am not about to try and teach that in 500 words since I’m about as qualified for that as Ozzie Osbourne is to host a bat-themed food safety class for children. That being said, there are still useful things to go over as regards applying 2D art to 3D models. Moreover if you’ve learned how to layer colours and have a vague understanding of light and shadow, you’ve already got a bunch of 2D painting skills.edition flame weapons were frequently brightly colored and yellow or orange, so I go for that look here. The nozzle is Averland Sunset highlighted with Yriel Yellow and shaded with Fuegan Orange before being highlighted again with Yriel Yellow and Flash Gitz Yellow. The Hazard Stripes are freehand Averland Sunset with a highlight of Yriel. I shaded the horns with several layers of Carroburg Crimson before giving them a final tip of Nuln Oil. The gloves are edge highlighted with Mechanicus Standard Grey and the skulls are Rakarth Flesh washed with Seraphim Sepia. Finally the cables are highlighted with The Fang. You’ll need to thin the Snakebite Leather with Contrast Medium rather than water or else the paint may end up looking a little bit blotchy. The other important part with Iron Warriors is that they must be miserable. They have to be down in filthy, broken mud and toxic landscapes and the basing is essential to that. And toxic basing is easy and fun to do, you can really go wild with it.

Averland Sunset is a warm, orange-toned paint from Citadel Colour’s Air Paint range, designed for use as a base coat in miniature painting. The paint has a matt finish and is made from high-quality pigments suspended in an acrylic medium. It is a great foundation color for beginners, providing excellent coverage and a rich, vibrant color that can be used to create a wide range of effects on miniatures. The paint is versatile and can be used as part of a beginner’s palette, allowing for the creation of warm and inviting miniatures. What armies to paint with Averland Sunset – Air PaintThe decision to list specific Citadel Colour paints to use with Averland Sunset – Air Paint was made using principles of colour theory, specifically the concept of complementary and analogous colours. Highlight the face masks and squad markings with Ulthuan Grey (Optional: Add a final highlight of White Scar. My headcanon is that the Rainbow Warriors organize themselves into 7 Battleline companies and 7 Reserve companies, each consisting of 7 squads named after the ROYGBIV colors of the rainbow. This is known as the Double Rainbow. The companies do not act as single entities, instead their squads are parceled out to the various strike forces of the Rainbow Warriors.

http://www.wargamesfoundry.com - also do a range of similar to Citadel paints, will update when can get chance. Above: a sepia glaze is used to darken the whole design down but keep it tied together in preparation for highlighting. Then I began the weathering. I recess shaded the entire model with agrax earthshade, then drybrushed the entire model with a bone color, avoiding the grey areas. You can highlight colors with a bone highlight, but it’s difficult for the white. Tau Empire: Averland Sunset can be used to paint the armor and weapons of Tau Empire units, including the battlesuits, pulse rifles, and other equipment. For 2D shapes and lettering, not much. You need a brush that holds a sharp point, and an understanding of how to use a palette to control the consistency and volume of paint on said brush. For rendered painting, you need to understand layering/blending, and a willingness to be rubbish at something until you’ve practised a bunch.

http://www.ttfxmedia.com/vallejo/cgi-bin/_modelis_info.asp?p1=ing&p2=modelcolor&p3=1#modelcolorinfo Orks: Averland Sunset can be used to paint the skin and clothing of Ork models, adding a touch of warm, muted colour to their appearance. Yellow’s are notoriously light when it comes to pigmentation, so coverage will take several layers. Save time (and details) by starting with a light or mid-tone primer. Look at the wood on the hourglass in the banner below. I’ve depicted the light as being above and slightly to the right, and this has determined where the highlights go. It’s not a masterpiece but hopefully it gets the point across.
