About this deal

Build quality is perfectly acceptable, and while there’s nothing luxurious about the feel of the plastics from which the Hisense is mostly made, there are no creaks or groans from the frame either. Keep the price uppermost in your mind and there’s little to be disappointed about here. The Hisense U7QF is a very good midrange LED LCD that uses Quantum Dot technology and also has Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG and HDR10 capabilities along with Dolby Atmos sound onboard. The smart TV system is intuitive and fast with a decent selection of apps as well as Freeview Play and all the UK catch-up services. Gaming input lag is also decent at 17ms but it doesn’t have all the HDMI 2.1 goods for VRR or ALLM.

With a Netflix-derived 4K Dolby Vision stream of Enola Holmes up and running, there are obvious and numerous positives to the way the Hisense goes about its work. Detail levels, for example, are respectably high - and that’s true of even the finest details of texture or skin-tone. There’s very agreeable insight into darker tones, without the rather artificial cast some screens can succumb to when trying to eke out the minutiae from dimly lit scenes. As a TV brand with broad market coverage, the company offers an impressive range of models, with everything from premium 8K and OLED sets (both not available in the US) to ultra-affordable basic LED ones with 4K or regular HD resolution screens. The bulk of its offerings are at the budget end of the Smart TV spectrum, however, with the Google, Roku, Android, and Fire TV platforms all represented. The upscaled 1080p image offers a smoother result and more detail than the upscaled SD version, but the image is slightly too grainy looking. Sound qualityOn the rear there are four HDMI ports (one ARC compatible), two USB 2.0 ports, a digital audio output (optical), an Ethernet port, a CI slot and a satellite input, as well as support for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Information of the number of pixels in a unit of length. With the decrease of the display size and the increase of its resolution, the pixel density increases. This layering becomes a little less distinct in His Dark Materials. The TV pulls every sound effect to the front of the mix causing the audio to sound a little messier – although, thankfully, not to the point of distraction. As an upscaler, the Hisense is reasonably adept with 1080p content and all at sea with anything less information-rich. Taking a Full HD image and making it fit the screen doesn’t impact too badly on detail levels or colour fidelity, and motion remains admirably smooth and stable too. But edges can get a bit restless, and the depth of field that is at such a premium with 4K stuff disappears altogether. But taking some DVD-borne information, say, or (worst-case scenario) some daytime TV broadcasts gives the A6G what used to be called ‘the vapours’. Detail levels fall off a cliff, to be replaced by ambiguity and noisiness. Few are the televisions capable of making pictures look simultaneously soft and edgy, but the Hisense 55A6G is one of them. Desktop monitors and smart TVs experience a latency/lag in visualizing the information. You can’t go too far without bumping into something with an electric pulse. Whether it’s a television, your mobile phone or even appliances in your kitchen, you probably have dozens of electronics in your home at any given moment. The best Hisense TVs are proving to be serious competitors, and not just among budget TV brands, but among TVs in general. In our U8H series review, for example, we found it had a measured peak brightness closely matching what we normally see in models priced twice as much, and its other performance-related features were similarly impressive. But that doesn’t mean you need to jump to the higher end of the price range, either. For most people, middling prices are the best way to go, as these products usually meld both quality and affordability. Once you turn the lights down, more issues surrounding the FALD and LCD technology become apparent with more blooming noticeable around things like subtitles and bright objects like white spaceships against the darkness of space. It is possible to mitigate against some of these issues and making sure your viewing environment is suitable for this type of TV display will help.
