VG+ (Very Good Plus): This record has clearly been played before, but has only a moderate reduction in sound quality, despite a possible slight loss of shine and some surface marks. As a brief sidebar, I can tell you that the contest was held in Harrogate in the UK, in 1982, and 12-year-old me lived there and so I went down to the International Conference Centre and saw the acts arrive! saw a huge chart presence for dance music – from the hi-NRG of Boys Town Gang, to the electro-infused beats of Malcolm McLaren, and Rockers Revenge, the 1980’s disco of Shalamar, alongside soul classics from Marvin Gaye and Donna Summer… plus stellar ballads from Elton John, Lionel Richie, and Roxy Music.

As with previous editions, there’s also a standard 4CD in a card sleeve, but the hardcover book deluxe comes with a 28-page booklet with a summary of the year, a track-by-track guide, a quiz and original singles artwork.

As usual, this is a 3CD set and unlike the ‘main’ Yearbooks there’s no vinyl and no deluxe hardcover option, just a six-panel gatefold card sleeve presentation.

Between these are massive hits from Lionel Richie, Rufus And Chaka Khan, Tina Turner, Alison Moyet, Howard Jones and Frankie Goes To Hollywood.
