About this deal

The flashbacks serve to confirm the police resolution, leave no loose endings and provide a satisfying conclusion to an effective team effort. With three books in little over a year, Cara Hunter could be in danger of her readership burning out with Fawley fatigue. La autora genera muchísima intriga y muchas preguntas que resuelve estupendamente al final de la lectura. The case we start out with is more or less unrecognisable by the time we reach the end, but there’s a logical progression – and, thankfully, a logical solution – that leaves us feeling satisfied and entertained.

But it's not long before the body of the mother Samantha is found amongst the debris which leaves the lingering questions 'Where is the father Michael? While it works well as a standalone mystery, No Way Out is, of course, best enjoyed as part of the Fawley series. Me enganchó rápidamente con capítulos dedicados a contar la historia de la familia meses antes de la tragedia del incendio, en una especie de cuenta atrás hasta el mismo día del incendio. But the author handles the distressing loss of a child under such horrific circumstances with great sensitivity. Quinn is in the front row with his tablet in his hand and his pen behind his ear (yes, I know, it doesn't make sense, but that is what he does). At the time of reading No Way Out I had not finished reading book two In the Dark so wasn't completely aware of the history as to how this change of roles came about, although it is hinted at, but as you'd expect when these types of role reversals happen it's always hard to accept change so it's no wonder there's resentment by Quinn towards his now superior.

My rich homie qualm is sometimes she can go OTT in the end or "Sharon Bolton it", but this one kept its shit together rather nicely. Were their bodies in what remained of the house and which was being steadily cleared, or had they left the children at home alone? Everything wasn’t perfect in the Esmond household, and the reader discovers this through flashbacks. He and his team needed to sift through the evidence, sparse though it was, and come to some conclusions. Again there's an even split between the police investigation in the present, and what led up to the crime, in this case 317 days before the fire working forward. After only just reading “ In the dark” by Cara Hunter I was delighted, no let’s be honest I was over the moon to get the opportunity to review this book from Netgalley in exchange for a copy. Either way, it’s time to add Cara Hunter to the do-not-miss list, and to start looking forward to book four!

Cara Hunter does an expert job of dropping teaser hints, all the while careful not to spoil anything, regarding her previous novels, so that if this is your first read by her you will be intrigued enough to check out the rest. As they dig into the story of the Esmond family, they learn Michael, the father, was dealing with an accusation at the university where he works. Ya lo sabes, si te gusta la novela policíaca con buen ritmo y no tienes la cabeza para ponerte con algo más denso, Cara Hunter es tu autora.DI Adam Fawley and his team have a particularly poignant case to deal with here - not only are there children involved, but it was around Christmas time as well, and although DI Fawley’s team are an eclectic bunch, they’re nothing if not tenacious, and this case will eat away at them like no other has, and none of them will rest until they’ve resolved it.
