Granting full and intimate access to her personal archive for the first time, the model and photographer shares over 300 pictures and artworks in a new book – and talks us through them.

The pictorial feast of imagery in My Life in Pictures is accompanied by Boyd’s stories and recollections. During our meditation lessons in Rishikesh, India, there would be time to capture lovely images like this one of Paul and John. The photos of Boyd posing for advertisements and fashion magazines are time capsules of both the youth and post-modern art movements of the 1960s.

She documented their life together, and later her second marriage to Clapton, capturing a vast archive of images not just as part of two of the most famous marriages of all time, but also documenting their close friends and contemporaries, including Twiggy, David Bailey, Mick Jagger, Billy Preston and The Beatles.

And then the ‘60s girls, when we came in, we did completely different make-up, we liked black underneath our eyes as well as on top. First modelling shoot by Anthony Norris, 1962Boyd’s archive features photographs from her early career, from Vogue to Vanity Fair, and marks fashion’s major shift from black and white postwar demure to wide-eyed, mini-skirted psychedelia, with Boyd’s place at the heart of 60s culture. One standout image features Harrison and Boyd posing in front of their home's rose garden, with Harrison looking away (see above).

Also reprinted for the book are the romantic love notes that Clapton sent to Boyd while she was still married to Harrison (The guitarist’s fixation on Boyd inspired “Layla,” his signature song).It was just a really nice environment—even if you do your makeup and your hair and all the clothes that you have to wear. It includes diary entries, artefacts and artworks, most famously the original Layla album cover painting by Emile Frandsen.
