About this deal

This immersive experience is best on the big screen to see it for all that it is: more than merely a run of the mill rock documentary. Rounding out the package is a live performance of “Rock ‘n Roll with Me” from 1974, a theatrical trailer, and a thoughtful essay by critic Jonathan Romney.

Unabashedly visceral as it may be, Moonage Daydream doesn’t always escape the moony-eyed feeling of hero worship, sometimes at the cost of nuance. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 92% based on 156 reviews, with an average rating of 8. Morgen has [assembled] a mesmerizing collage of sound and vision that will entrance and enrich any Bowie fan and, presumably, make new fans of anyone lucky enough to have this be their first real encounter with his world. I guess any ardent Bowie fan (like me) should see it at least twice … I think on the 2nd showing, one can appreciate it much more than the 1st showing! My wife has bought me this Bluray for Christmas, so I'm looking forward to seeing again with the volume cranked up on my 5. However, I would like to know why there wasn't anything regarding Hours/Heathen/Reality and The Reality Tour (his last ever acclaimed tour) The Next Day and one of the last works DB completed before his death … Lazarus - The Musical? Later on in the film, viewers see how themes of loneliness and isolation come to the forefront, affecting his music and artistry. From his early musical beginnings in 1962 through his posthumous releases, and concert footage, Bowie's influence, and influences are captured superbly.

The second part of the film discussed and presents Bowie's extensive interests in the arts while in West Berlin outside of the music industry, such as his interest in oil painting and acrylic painting, as well as his interest in writing within the literary arts. Siddhant Adlakha of IndieWire gave the film a "B+", characterizing it thus: "More sensory experience than straightforward recounting, [ Moonage Daydream] is about feeling your way through a chaotic world with Ziggy Stardust as your anchor. Oscars: Tales of Artistry, Environmental Activism and Political Struggle Lead the Documentary Feature Race". Criterion’s release boasts a small yet strong slate of extras, but it’s the impeccable A/V presentation that makes this a worthy addition to any Bowie fan’s home video collection.Extras: Language(s): English, Hard of Hearing Subtitles: English, Subtitles: Dutch, French, German, Italian, Interactive Menu, Screen ratio 1:1. You must not modify the paper or digital copies of any materials you have printed off or downloaded in any way, and you must not use any illustrations, photographs, video or audio sequences or any graphics separately from any accompanying text. He is depicted as having entered the height of his career and formed a new life style with his new wife Iman Abdulmajid.

Maybe it's just the advancing years catching up with me but I'm sure that there will be others out there who consider it a masterpiece. But it could also be said to describe the feeling that Morgen inspires with the impressionistic way that he renders the life and art of the glam-rock icon on screen.

Bowie's third phase is covered by showing him appearing in his tailored Savile Row double breasted business suits and appearing in duets with multiple established artists such as Tina Turner and others. I've watched it once and have no idea when I'll watch it again, if ever, probably never in its entirety. An initial digital release was set for 16 September 2022, with a two-disc CD version to follow on 18 November 2022 and a three-disc vinyl record release was released on 31 March 2023. Chief among its omissions is mention of Bowie’s cocaine addiction during much of his (unhappy, according to the documentary) time living in Los Angeles during the 1970s, which peaked with a moment in 1976 when he was photographed waving to a crowd at Victoria Station in London in what appeared to be a Nazi salute.

The film is guided by David Bowie's own narration and is the first officially sanctioned film on the artist. After moving to West Berlin, Bowie speaks in clips and interviews about the extensive impact which the aesthetics of German culture in West Berlin had upon his artistic sensibilities. Since 2001, we've brought you uncompromising, candid takes on the world of film, music, television, video games, theater, and more.
