About this deal

Side note: if anyone knows why like 5 random pages in the middle of the manga are coloured instead of black and white, please help a girl out.

The suspense from Johan possibly being one of Tenma's multiple personalities, Tenma being betrayed, and whatever lies in the Kemp's mansion is killing me.An issue I often find with manga art is that all the characters look like children, and at their oldest late teens to early 30s. Apart from the end of the children’s story in which a monster is one with the young boy named Johan – possibly the inspiration for naming the main antagonist of Monster – the story itself reflects on the recurring theme that Urasawa has explored, which is the monster within everybody.

Something I absolutely love about this manga series is that while it strays extremely far from the main plot, everything ends up getting connected back to the main story. The atmosphere was interesting given how he was trying to settle into this new fabulous life, yet he could just not sit still. Because the first page has my favorite character with judgmental eyebrows glaring at me through the title page! I know that Nina was a threat to Johan, but I thought his people knew that she was valuable to him and planned on disposing of her after they met or something. With a stronger emphasis on action, Urasawa’s strength as an artist relies more on dramatic conversations, where he proves to be a master of illustrating facial expressions. I had taken a break from my frequent Library trips during the Holidays, being busy with other things and books, but I was ecstatic to jump back into the series! This series is so rich and in depth that it takes me an absolute AGE to read but then when the final pages arrive, I'm shocked that it's over.

Rudi double crossing the police and the reveal regarding Tenma's opinion of him were such a huge relief, and the latter was even a comical one at that!

Much of the emotion that I felt through the series came from the side characters often, and Urasawa proves to be as gifted with characterization as Stephen King, creating characters with depth and nuance that gives the story its heart despite all the horrors that happen in it. I understand I can change my preference through my account settings or unsubscribe directly from any marketing communications at any time. a trama vai se complexificando, novos personagens entram no jogo, mas os mais antigos ainda têm seu espaço bem marcado. Interweaving dark conspiracies, hospital politics, serial murders and controversial indictment, the dark tale of Tenma, Johan and all of the unfortunate souls caught in between their battle of morality is an unforgettable experience.

His boundless imagination and his sense of set up and pay off will keep readers entertained as the story moves along as it does, culminating to an ending that is as oddly fitting as you could be with this story. The complexity of human nature, the small deeds that change the world around us little by little, the hero and the monster that lives inside all of us, how our actions shape the next generation, the controversy of nature vs. Tenma's journey is ripe with struggle as he uncovers the mystery of who Johan is and all the forces that seek him for good or ill. Urasawa's work often concentrates on intricate plotting, interweaving narratives, a deep focus on character development and psychological complexity. One of the more interesting aspects of this volume, is the fact that Tenma, when it ultimately comes down to it, is unable to shoot Johan.
