About this deal

He opens his front door and hits the lights—but lingers on the threshold, backlit by the chandelier. The ending was never in doubt - just how long it would take Luther to solve it, and how much paperwork he would have to sort out afterwards was left to your imagination. m. Luther takes his coat and helps him through the doors, through the main entrance, blazing bright. Sienna Guillory, who plays Luther's new love interest, Mary Day – surely a thankless role, given what usually happens to the people who get tangled up in his life – has her own theories as to why people love the programme. This is a novel by Neil Cross that is a prequel to his famed BBC TV crime series LUTHER starring the terrific actor and top bloke Idris Elba.

A “gripping, taut” (Guillermo del Toro) thriller featuring homicide detective John Luther, “who is intelligent and almost freakishly intuitive [and] belongs not only to the Sherlock Holmes tradition but also to the newer crime-fiction model elaborated by Thomas Harris in his novels Red Dragon, The Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal” ( The New York Times). This book will appeal to Luther fans, but Warning; the content may be too disturbing for some readers. Despite the moodiness, despite the intensity of this character, Cross is also able to pull off a fantastic storytelling style.

It may have blazed a trail for "bizarre shit", but in Luther's 18-month absence, terrifying TV has become far creepier, and far more common. One thing you should know about this book is that where the story of the book ends the first season of the tv show Luther starts, so far any spoilers. They're on a particularly tight schedule, even by TV standards, and they're contending with all the icy-drizzle joys of shooting in London in February. At times it's very hard to read and makes you squirm BUT in doing so it extracts your deepest feelings and empathies for everyone involved.

A word of warning to the faint of heart: if you found some of the crimes in the TV series hard to stomach this book may not be for you. After *that* Luther: The Fallen Sun ending it’s perhaps no surprise that after asking themselves - is Luther based on a book? I quickly became hooked on it, on paper the tortured cop could come across as a cliche but the writing and performances ensured that didn't happen. The kills are just the cost of what the killer really wants, and seeing that played out is thoroughly disturbing. This book is great the series is great I can't say enough about Idris Elba's portrayal of the damaged but lovable detective.
