Yet, as Rosemary Hill explains in a recent piece, the volcano exerted an irresistible pull on poets, tourists and statesmen. Evaluation of Literary Elements: Since this is a graphic novel, there are plenty of images to explore and think about. Amid earthquakes and volcano eruptions, the boys are forced to evacuate with trusted family guides into the maze of tunnels under the volcano itself. It’s there that the liquid rock waits to find a way through to the surface, causing a volcanic eruption.
