In the Absence of Men is a novel by Phillippe Besson published originally in French by Éditions Julliard in 2001.Perhaps what is most striking is the idea that the characters have real emotions too, and they are human as well, like the rest of the population. I also loved Lie With Me, and so it seems a great shame that not more of Besson’s work has yet been translated into English.

I hope others of the author's work will be translated for the enjoyment of those of us whose college French is not adequate for reading it in the original.
