The garden boasts some magnificent specimens such as the hardy orchid Dactylorhiza ‘Tizzy Hornell’, which was named after Elizabeth herself.

Robust and resilient, heather grows particularly well in damp conditions, and soil dosed with acid compost should help it grow beautifully in your garden, year after year. Blanch the young shoots and use like asparagus; the young leaves make a good spring vegetable, and the white flowers are heavily honey scented.
