About this deal

Dow’s was one of the first Port companies to recognise the importance of vineyard ownership in the Douro. The sweetness can cover any slightly less well balanced wine but it will tend to make the final blend rather cloying and less enjoyable to savour. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Dow’s Vintage Ports have been landmark wines in virtually every great year, consistently setting the standards amongst all Port houses.

Single Quinta Vintage Ports are made in a similar way to other Vintage Ports in that they're bottled, without filtration, after a couple or so years in barrel and continue to mature in bottle from there. Looking back through declared vintages, 2011 produced fabulous wines with freshness and a fruity style which will make them great drinking throughout their evolution.

Critic tasting note: (2019 vintage) "From the Bomfim vineyard in Pinhão, this vintage Port shows black jam and spice flavors. The wines from Senhora da Ribeira are among the finest in the Douro and complement the wines from Bomfim in the composition of the Dow’s classic Vintage Ports. Any questions about collection, opening times and how to find us, can be found on the contact us page. Abundant fruit flavours with hints of maple, raisins and ripe blackberries give elegance and poise to this wine. Quinta do Bomfim 2006 Vintage Port shows a lovely bouquet of red fruits and spicy aromas and the palate is full of jammy red fruit and notes of spices, mint and chocolate.

Dow's owns the Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira vineyards and, using these, even on undeclared years produces some truly superb Single Quinta port wines. It is widely acknowledged amongst generations of Port producers that producing slightly drier Old Tawny Ports is far more difficult than producing sweet tawny Ports.

was a very dry, but not hot, vintage which has given some characterful wines with great elegance, some excellent single quintas have been made. Many of the Dow’s Colheitas available today have been aged for considerably longer and Dow’s has one of the finest collections of cask aged Ports in existence today. Kg per vine) picked on September 29th, and another lagar of Touriga Nacional also fermented with Sousão. The very hot climate through the summer at this vineyard results in highly complex and concentrated wines but very low yields.

Only tasters with a profound experience and knowledge of the great Ports of the Douro can nurture these wines through many years of aging in seasoned oak casks in the Dow’s cellars. Has something of spices, from the relatively high proportion of Sousão, which are balanced by fresh acidity and minerality. The vineyard commands a magnificent north bank position, overlooking a broad sweep of the Douro, directly opposite another famous Symington owned vineyard: Quinta do Vesuvio. The acidity was near perfect and the tannins are tame but omnipresent; while the finish was spicy, warm and extremely long. Over the centuries, the winemakers at Bomfim have evolved a style that suits this particular vineyard: fermentations are a little longer, resulting in a drier Port wine that has become the hallmark of Dow’s. Dow's attractive and distinctive drier finish is the recognisable hallmark of the wines from this great Port house.
