During a playdate at Maddox's house, Greg retrieves his balloon, and realizes that Maddox is not allowed to use electronics and spends his time playing with Legos. Greg later discusses how the Spinetickler's books give him nightmares and how he regrets reading them, like the dream he got a tail and people were jealous of him. Later, Greg says his grandmother, Nana, is watching him from heaven, and he's got a lot of issues with it. The first entry in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series came out in 2007, when I was almost twelve years old — meaning I was a part of the target audience.We are experiencing delays with deliveries to many countries, but in most cases local services have now resumed. He and Rowley, while filming it with Susan and Frank's camera, Greg tries to get more worms from the laundry room to get more, but the pig is eating them. I really like the part in this book when the school does a Balloon Brigade, the students all get a helium filled balloon and the kid with the furthest traveling balloon gets a prize. Susan is disappointed at Greg, as he viewed Maddox as an antisocial nerd instead of a good role model.

Greg remembers about Rodrick having a wolf mask he wore one Halloween, and he and Rowley go to the basement room to get it while trying to, the witch goes off and one of the shelves comes falling down on them. He gets bad grades at school, plays video games all day, joins a band jut to get invited to a party, etc. When he veers to strange flashbacks about piano lessons and speech class, it feels more like filler.

Greg ultimately ends up grounded by Frank as he mistakenly believes Greg backed out and decided to waste time by goofing off instead of performing. Maybe it was the psycho cackling witch (I once had an Elmo doll ask me from a silent, darkened closet "Do you want to play with Elmo? The scene where Greg "blaps" in band class is currently the only known time where he actually poops his pants in the books (even if it isn't outright mentioned). His mom thinks video games are turning his brain to mush, so she wants her son to put down the controller and explore his “creative side.He settles for a French horn, but realizes that he will not be invited due to not playing a woodwind instrument. Maddox accuses Greg of having stolen one of his Legos (one of the tiny useless blocks, which stuck to Greg's arm without him noticing, which results in his mother frisking Greg), and Susan ends the playdate in disappointment.
