About this deal

The best thing about the album is that it is entirely comfortable not to be Avant Garde and instead concentrate on the sound that the band has always had. If you have followed Dare since their beginning days in 1989 you will agree with me that Wharton and Co. He has this melodic silky voice, very accessible and very recognisable, but Darren is not a man who wants or needs to demonstrate power and a big reach. One or two songs more in that vein would have given ‘Road To Eden’ more body, as most of the songs are reasonably laid back, smooth and not really that much different from earlier work. There’s a suggestion that all of these are about the past, but this mid-paced rocker will probably transport anyone to whatever moment they choose.

That they fell apart without realising that potential was a big disappointment to fans, myself included, but Darren Wharton resumed the band, albeit pursuing a mellower sound influenced by traditional celtic music. They may be mellow listening, but there is something warm and comforting about Darren’s whispered tones, which have not changed a jot throughout his career, and are quite like nothing else in the melodic rock world. A pensive, personal yet universal love song that has resonated with many since its release in January, the song sees John reflecting on their lifetime well spent and in particular one of their happiest moments together in Hawaii.

The latter starts with a piano and evolves quickly to a gently rocking hymn with great melodies and a lot of b(r)and recognition. have (throughout the years) developed a certain style sounding more and more smooth and more and more direction AOR with some Celtic influences.

Band Line-Up: Darren Wharton-Vocals, Keyboards / Vinny Burns-Guitars / Nigel Clutterbuck-Bass Guitar / Kev Whitehead-Drums / Marc Roberts-Keyboards. What I remember most from Out of the Silence was the warm, inviting voice of Darren Wharton, a former keyboard player for Thin Lizzy, and their melodic approach, which was notably against the trends of the time, when bands were getting heavier and moving into extreme metal.Way back in the day I sadly missed out on Dare, taken by the bright lights of the Sunset Strip in the late eighties if it was all a bit too melodic then so I kind of side stepped it.

By this time, Dare had released five singles that had charted in the UK Singles Chart: "Abandon" (No. That one simply has to be the kick off of the live shows this Autumn, but any of them could make the set and belong there.Positioning himself to the left of the stage, Redfern is in the shadows compared to Finn who is nicely lit by the stage lights. As it is, it only serves to remind us how impressive the album was early on and how much it had softened up since that point.

With Moore departed the band was reduced to a three-piece, with Wharton on vocals and keyboards, Dews on guitars and backing vocals, and Whitehead on drums. The album also peaked at number 3 in the official UK indie charts and number 4 in the official UK vinyl charts). But the thing about Dare is that the 2022 vintage might just be even better than the band that we had back in 1988. Since early 2020 Josh has been entertaining us with exclusive monthly live sessions, streamed via Facebook. In a Christmas wishes post to fans on Dare's official Facebook page, on 24 December 2020 Wharton commented that the band would "hopefully see you all next year [2021] with our brand new album". Multiplying the luminous soli ('The Devil Rides Tonight'), Vinnie Burns also does not hesitate to pay homage to another national legend in the person of The Edge ( U2) of which he sometimes takes the gimmick which made his reputation during some introductions ('Cradle To The Grave', 'Road To Eden'). Something of a departure, ‘Grace’, while being another piano led ballad initially, building in part though not overtly, its main focus being the convincing narrative portrayed of a brief encounter, romance if you will, on a train.
