About this deal

Freckles is a charming, uplifting and completely captivating story that will remind you to cherish the glorious people you have in your life, even if we can't see them at the moment. It is a life-affirming story about the importance of relationships and of having real-life connections. Running alongside this is her new job as a traffic warden and the people she gets to know in Dublin. It's about human connection, about change, pressing the reset button, but also about becoming comfortable in your own skin.

The protagonist, Allegra Bird, initially struggles with her identity and purpose, working as a parking officer in Dublin and feeling disconnected from her past. The protagonist, Allegra (Freckles) was an incredibly quirky character with some neurodivergent characteristics (it seemed). This book doesn’t provide the touristy version; rather, it gives a resident’s view into the functioning of the city. The book weaves through Allegra’s life, unravelling her complex relationships, family history, and her quest for meaningful connections. Freckles whose real name is Allegra Bird moved away from her childhood boyfriend, her father and the ferry to live in Dublin for a particular reason. Despite facing difficulties, the story remains uplifting and refreshing, emphasizing the strength of family bonds and unexpected friendships. This book surprised me in how much I ended up enjoying it by the end (genuine tears in my eyes/lump in my throat at some bits at the end!

Thank you Random Thing Tours for inviting me to this tour and providing an advanced copy for me to review and give my honest and unbiased opinion. I felt for Allegra as she sought to understand the '5 people in your life' saying, and how she reached out to those she admired in the desire to learn from them.

It sounds like a very light-hearted title for this emotional story, but it actually fits wonderfully.
