About this deal

However, the story's darker elements are counterbalanced by a wonderful power of hope and the final part provides a twist that few readers are likely to anticipate. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I would recommend it as a class 'story time' book for years 2 and 3, and as a reading for pleasure book for years 4-6.

The contrast of loneliness and companionship, of the horrors of war and the joys of love and friendship are, in my opinion, what make his stories stick. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites. I didn't much like Bertie's father, who was mean and awful and didn't seem to like the lion and judging from the story he didn't really seem to like Bertie much either.I can see why they opted to also tell this story on stage, it has all the hallmarks of a great story that appeals to people of all ages.

As a history degree graduate, I love any book that attempts to incite an interest in history from children and I think this book does this perfectly. Sweeping across decades and continents, the butterfly lion provides a combination of love stories, a boy and his lion; a boy and a girl; a man and a woman. I think it is important to be reminded about how special animals can be to humans when human over-population threatens their habitat and makes so many wild animas endangered. We use cookies to personalise content and ads, to provide social media features and to analyse our traffic. The book was adapted into a stage play by Daniel Buckroyd of the Mercury Theatre, Colchester, which toured the UK in 2014. He has written more than 100 books and has won the Smarties Prize, the Whitbread Award, and most recently the Blue Peter Book Award for PRIVATE PEACEFUL. Sir Michael Andrew Morpurgo, OBE, FRSL is the author of many books for children, five of which have been made into films.

I felt that it would be particularly beneficial if the children could experience the audiobook version. I would deeply recommend Michael Morpurgo's books, because his stories take you to different worlds that are really hard to leave behind when you finish the book. It deals with loneliness and love, courage and success against all the odds and revolves around friendship, loyalty and, as is so often the case with Morpurgo, the backdrop is the Great War. This book is a short novel in fairly large print with charming illustrations that is suitable for readers of all ages. As a boy, Bertie had found an orphaned white lion cub, but was eventually forced to send the lion away to the circus and leave South Africa to attend boarding school in Wiltshire, England.Michael is good at using his imagination thats why I like his books but out of all the books he's written The Butterfly lion is the best. I add my voice to the majority of commentators who rate this book highly for children of all ages, even into their old age! It is a story told in the first person by a young boy who runs away from his school lonely and sad and meets the old lady who relates the story of her husband from long before. Warning: this review may have spoilers** It wasn't my type the start was good but after it got boring.
