About this deal

This is my first proper turntable setup, and was wondering if anyone has any comparison thoughts between the ART DJ and the Mani… would it be a noticeable upgrade for me, and if so, what differences would I notice? The DJ PRE II is a low-noise, high quality phono interface that allows for incredible sound reproduction and comes in a rugged housing. I did not take a look-see at the circuitry encased, so I cannot comment on the quality of the components within.

The ART DJ PRE II is an interface between turntable and audio recording/playback device, perfect for recording vinyl to your computer or adding EQ to your tuntable. Haven't quite decided what to do with that, but as a minimally invasive solution, I may just mask over it with electrical tape.

I may think of more suggestions later; my apologies for not posting examples (I've measured a lot of RIAA stages), but I'm about 1000 km from my home lab at the moment. Bought the ART DJ Pre II instead of the cheaper Behringer PP400 as it has adjustable gain and many reviews suggested it was worth the extra money.

That's why if headroom is even given as a specification point, it's normally quoted at 1kHz, as at other frequencies, the reduced headroom one side of 1kHz on reproduction should be compensated for an increased headroom on the cutting side and similarly for increasing headroom. The ART DJ Pre II Phono Preamp is a preamplifier specially designed for phono signals, which enables the connection of turntables to line inputs. Quiet high-quality phono preamp with EQ that acts as an interface between the turntable and the audio recording/playback system, and works for all types of turntables. Even while sitting in the sweet spot, my girlfriend switched it back and forth several times and I still didn't hear any change. Gain knobs, have oddly been one of my 'want' lists for phono preamps, which is funny because they are a rare feature. The RIAA curve is also applied on the cutting side, so overall cutting/replay headroom should be independent of frequency. To ensure that this can be done without damage, the body is made entirely of aluminium, which allows it to be robust without weighing too much. I'd say it was fairly comparable to other budget pres I tried such as the Pluto and Mani, so a very good bang for the buck. I bought the ART DJ Pre II for a relatively specific reason - both my record player and my AppleTV (via a bluetooth receiver) were outputting directly to my living room speakers, and the record player signal was MUCH quieter than the AppleTV, even with the AppleTV turned all the way down. dlaloum wrote:It also has the advantage of a high quality regulated power supply in the AVR, whereas a lot of the more economical phono stages use wall warts - which deliver relatively dirty power.
