About this deal

In Amazing Disgrace: The Voicenotes, Grace Campbell, the self-proclaimed queen of disgrace, will interview her guests on all the most disgraceful things they’ve ever done, and then they will give advice to members of the public on their own personal shame dilemmas. Thank fuck for that, or else she’d be denying us her fabulous Instagram stories and advice on “Politicians as lovers”. But over time, and with a 24 carat gold dose of female friendship, Grace has turned shame into a defiant sense of self. Another reason I related so much to the book was that there’s a self-awareness that runs throughout the chapters, acknowledging the intersectionality of women and their experiences, the common grounds and the vast differences across socioeconomic backgrounds, racial identities, sexualities and beyond. The only part that I found dragged a bit was around the opening chapters when she talks about her childhood hatred for Tony Blair a lot, which feels a bit aimless and isn't something many people (nobody?

What I admire the most about Grace Campbell is that there’s no hiding behind a performance for her readers: her life is her literal material and she delves into it with a bravery that has me shook. They talk about gender in the make-up industry, the Black Lives Matter movement, and compare notes on their adolescent years - before taking a look at your 'shameful' voicenotes. I absolutely love Grace, but I put off reading this for a little while because I was apprehensive that it would scream privilege and be vastly unrelatable.Item despatched quickly and as described, but damaged in transit due to plastic wrap packaging being inadequate protection.

Ummmm, I don't wanna say I didn't enjoy it because there were plenty of moments that really resonated with me and also I laughed out loud at, but I duno.Seller has stated it will dispatch the item within 1 working day upon receipt of cleared payment - opens in a new window or tab . Grace explores some excruciating topics through her own experiences, however there are stark contrasts to those I have read already. Grace Campbell makes no bones about her privileged background and this is refreshing and leads to a book that is both an autobiography and an empowering guide to how to accept yourself and every part of you.

I found Grace's book entirely relatable in many places, as a child born in the mid-1990s I'm a year younger than Grace and have grown up at the same time as Grace which I think drives this connection. At only 26, Grace has got a lot to learn about being an adult, but she’s already got a lot to share about being a disgrace, and how she came to be utterly, disgustingly, disgracefully proud of it. I preferred the first two thirds to the closing sections but I read it all eagerly and ain't nothin gonna make me give this less than five stars.Robert Christgau wrote: "Of course it's not the Beatles or Big Star—merely emulated, the formal ideas don't sustain their excitement. This week, Grace talks to Rozanna Purcell about shame around bodies in the modelling industry, and how a bad breakup might be the best thing for you. The Washington Post: "The amazingly prolific and astonishingly sophisticated James Hamilton-Paterson has given us another novel, as offbeat and unexpected as any of the rest. The Seattle Times: "The vainglorious Gerald is a wonderfully cranky narrator and the book's satirical-outrage factor sometimes reaches Borat-like heights.

The inimitable Gerald Samper is back, with his musings on the absurdities of modern life and his entertaining asides during which he comments on everything from publishing to penile implants, celebrity sportswomen to Australian media moguls. Soo surprised at how much I enjoyed this, found myself addicted to learning about her life, and made me aware of how much shame I was carrying in my life. While there’s no Damascene conversion - she is still prone to anxiety and self-loathing - she does start stand-up; realises supporting women is more rewarding than competing with them; and banishes the toxic men in favour of one (‘Bae’). I love her celebration of female friendship groups and how they can provide the same sort of value, if not more, to our sense of self than romantic relationships. But most of all, I loved the brutal honesty with which she took mental health conversations head on, and how she (not without humor) normalized emotions we often blame ourselves for feeling, especially as women.I totes relate to this and have genuinely wondered on many occasions how I would still be standing were it not for the lovely interventions of my fab friends when I’m up shit’s creek or about to make a very bad life decision at a house party full of strangers that don’t have my best interests at heart.
