One of my favourite focal lengths, especially for street photography and environmental portraits is 50mm and I felt that the Olympus m4/3 lens lineup was missing this. Wider lenses are more susceptible to perspective distortion (all lens will suffer perspective distortion, depending on how and where you shoot from) and 50mm perspective is just the right focal length to achieve the balance of natural output.

The normal prime lens space in the Micro 4/3 system has recently become a bit more crowded, as Olympus has finally released their fast normal prime lens, the 25mm f/1. I do not know of any other words to describe the bokeh rendering, but please do look at the many, many images of different subjects I have shot to get an idea of what the lens can do.

The front lens is concave and lets in a good amount of light in the corners despite the small diameter. With that thought in mind…here are some observations I can make from my own experience with these two lenses. I used Olympus Viewer 3 as a way to emulate the exact same JPEG quality of the camera to achieve the sharpness and color tones. Lenses with relatively shallow depth of field – like the 25mm – are especially well suited to capture the combination of tack-sharp subject and beautifully soft, defocused background that exemplifies bokeh.

The out of focus area has very good "creaminess", with round shaped bokeh and overall looking very pleasing, not distracting at all.The only flaw I found was the presence of purple flare, something that both Heather and I noticed since the first days of use. The compact design makes it an excellent walk-around, every day lens that's great for portraits and low-light shooting, as well as general purpose photography.
