In February 2023, 12" mixes all taken from the first three Now Dance compilations, originally released in 1985, 1986 and 1989, were collected on a special 4CD and 3LP set, Now Dance: The 80s, with artwork inspired by the original Now Dance 86.

UB40 - Please Don't Break My Heart: Great song; I think it should have been put next to the other 'heart' songs. The original Now Dance series began in 1985 and has been released in a variety of titles, formats, and release frequency. Today’s computer generated trash is not in the same stratosphere as what the ‘Now’ team were creating 35 years ago. Next up are Cameo and their groovy jam Single Life while David Grant and Jaki Graham bringing up the rear with the animalistic Mated. Not quite as bouncy as you’d usually expect from UB40, but I really quite like the atmosphere of this one.On my original copy of Now 6 the inner sleeve had images of the first 5 volumes and of Now Dance on one side and the tracklistings on the other. Two more chart-toppers feature; UB40 and Chrissie Hynde’s evergreen cover of Sonny and Cher’s I Got You Babe and ex-Ultravox frontman Midge Ure’s surprisingly successful If I Was [this had already been bagged by Out Now! From 2003, and until 2010, there was one special edition released each year, covering a decade (80s, 90s and 00s), or a cross section of big hits celebrating the Now series ( Now Decades, Now Years, Now Dance) - however, from 2011, they became much more frequent, and in 2017, there were fifteen different titles released.

The 1990s Yearbook series contains a new retro-90s logo design and artwork which also complements its sister decade series. Nevertheless I am sure that Nik was delighted to see his first eight singles compiled on albums such as these. All series with the exception of United Kingdom and the United States have been discontinued, New Zealand had two more albums released as a playlist only on Spotify, South Africa had three more albums released as a playlist on Spotify under DJ Kurtis. The Special Editions series includes a wide range of Now anniversary collections, different music genres, eras, and decades, as well as commercial tie-ins with Smash Hits, Disney, Eurovision, HMV and the Official Chart Company. A further release, The Final Chapter, a deluxe 4-CD and 3-LP set, was issued in December 2022, rounding off the Yearbook years 1980 to 1984.

There’s a subtle rock switch now with Simple Minds windswept Alive And Kicking from the overblown Once Upon A Time LP. Bit of a nostalgic purchase for me; this was the first 'Now' compilation album I owned back in 1985 when it was released (although that was a cassette! The former was Feargal’s third 45 after the underrated Listen To Your Father [Now 4] and Loving You [Now 5 video selection only]. Side note: Geth and I noticed when we were at the Sage Gateshead for the Kim Wilde gig last night that Level 42 will be playing there in October.
