About this deal

NEW YORK, United States — After a long awaited compilation of 10 years, Sarah Kay finally publishes her collection of poems which can only be described as brutally raw, naked and hopeful, which is aptly titled No Matter the Wreckage. After a long awaited compilation of 10 years, Sarah Kay finally publishes her collection of poems which can only be described as brutally raw, naked, and hopeful. The poems themselves aren't very long, 3 pages at most and 3 lines at least, so this makes this book something you can definitely throw in your bag and read between subway stops or while waiting in line for your morning coffee. She began performing poetry at the Bowery Poetry Club in the East Village at the age of 14, joining their Slam Team in 2006. Sarah Kay's spectacular poetry reached me so deeply that I've already passed the book on to my little sister a mere ten minutes after reading it, because I wanted to share the gift of these spectacular and empowering words with her.

I loved how her poems touched not only love, but awareness, longing, giving importance to other people, putting someone else's happiness before her own and how she made each poem entirely different from another. Poetry is a very subjective thing, and for me to appreciate it I have to connect with what it's saying. Description: Following the success of her breakout poem, "B," Sarah Kay releases her debut collection of poetry featuring work from the first decade of her career. In No Matter the Wreckage , Sarah Kay takes you on a profound journey through her self-discovery in New York. She has performed at events and venues like the Lincoln Center, the Tribeca Film Festival, and at the United Nations where she was a featured performer for the launch of the 2004 World Youth Report.

Reading through the poems (to myself and out loud to family members) I found that I could not quite capture all of the magic that Sarah has when she presents her poems. She is perhaps best known for her talk at the 2011 TED conference, which garnered two standing ovations and has been seen over three million times online.Common experiences which we sometimes fail to take notice of just because we are clouded by the white noise around us. If you are planning to read more poetry this reading year, I can tell you one thing for sure, Sarah Kay will not disappoint. When the weight gives, and all that extra rope comes hurtling towards you, how even though you've won, you still end up with muddy knees and burns on your hands?

On a practical level, a poem that is spoken benefits from being presented with the tempo and emphasis that the poet had in mind. I don't own many poetry books, but in my mind, this is poetry that both an expert on poetry and a casual reader can enjoy. Because listeners of spoken-word poetry do not have the benefit of being able to sit and read and reread a poem, the poet is forced to make sure that their metaphors and imagery come through strongly and are not overly obscure.A dear friend brought Sarah Kay to my attention a few months ago in an attempt to explain to me the wonders of spoken-word poetry. You may have never heard of Sarah Kay or maybe you have watched every performance in every nook and cranny of the internet. I guess right now the poem I am thinking about the most is the poem Ghost Ship, a line from which inspired the title for this collection.
