About this deal

This has attracted the attention of a group of men who have offered to exterminate the rats on the farmer's land free of charge. Connolly noted the book for Conly's "gradations of moral understanding and culpability" while dealing with "such problematic issues as the roles of science and technology, identity, idealism, family life, forms of community and means of survival". Frisby and the Rats of NIMH is a pleasing book, but I find it mildly frustrating; it might have been something more than it is". I got the book again later in life and this has culminated in reading it aloud to my 5 yr old son (*with only a few slight edits/explanations of the more complicated passages). I adored the 1982 movie and the book when I was little but hadn't read or watched it in over a decade or more.

Fortunately, she encounters the rats of NIMH, an extraordinary breed of highly intelligent creatures, who come up with a brilliant solution to her dilemma. In the end I liked the story so much that I wouldn't mind reading a sequel, to find out how the story continues for our heroes. The second complaint is that I'm not super happy that we don't know what happened to Justin the Rat either. A good story with which to illustrate the importance of kindness, family and friendship as well reading and problem solving skills.Frisby and the Rats of NIMH "reflect the many scientific and technological anxieties present in 1960s American culture". My nitpicking (of a children’s book) aside, I’m sure the intended audience would still very much enjoy a tale like this.

He also had a home in Morgan County, West Virginia, after 1965, a place he loved and visited as often as he could. I loved how the rats were presented as really nice, since they are usually presented as nasty, especially to mice. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. I love it when the narrator is so good that the listening experience flows without any glitches from something annoying that the listener has to consciously ignore. Nicodemus' thoughts about prairie dogs and their potential evolution and the evolution of monkees to men (implied but not explicity stated) is clumsy and well above the heads of most likely readers and seems out of place. When the exterminators fill the rat hole with poisonous gas, eight of the ten rats manage to escape, while the remaining two die in the hole.

Furthermore, reading serves as a gateway for the rats to discover that humans dislike them because they steal.Surprisingly thoughtful book about education, ethics, community and obligations to ourselves, our family, our tribe, and the larger world. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH became the basis for the animated film The Secret of NIMH, the directorial debut of Don Bluth. A group of rats, led by one named Jenner, rejected this plan and left the nest at some point before Frisby's arrival. Normally, the family would move to their summer home to avoid being uprooted, but Timothy is too ill to move.

And the slowness of the story was accented by the slowness of the audiobook narrator and very long pauses. The story has aged really well because there isn't anything to date it, like mentioning popular fashion choices of the time, so really anyone can read it.It might be because of Don Bluth's genius; but I also didn't like the illustrations in the book (all mice and rats look exactly the same) and I didn't think the author did such a great job imagining how a rat would think and act in this particular situation. For me the whole story is entertaining whilst being an insight into an aspect of life that we, as humans, seem to have forgotten. I was so into this book, I made my mom take me to the library where I checked it out so I could read ahead to find out what was coming. Even better than I remembered, and now I have to read the sequel to find out what happened to everybody. The second class was a modern history class where the professor announced, "Modern history is anything that has happened while I have been alive.
