It was part of introducing how Hannah and Gabby are best friends but Hannah is white and Gabby is Black and it’s no big deal. Even after I got over him, I was never able to extinguish the fire completely, as if it’s a pilot light that will remain small and controlled but very much alive. I’d much rather be depicted with my dark brown hair and my light green eyes, but I understand that you can’t really do much with color when you’re drawing with a Bic pen.

Equal parts heart-breaking and heart-warming, this story really snuck up on me because out of nowhere, I’d suddenly just find myself overwhelmed with emotions. When I hug her, I remember how odd it is to hug someone so much smaller than I am, how different the two of us seem at first glance.

If words were things, I would have rushed to pluck them out of the air and put them back in my mouth. Yes, I believe in good things happening when most part of our lives end up getting more shitty than we expected.

Im a sucker for chances, choices and fate and question every now and then, if i did this or that, how would my life turn out. I am huge fan of the show Frasier, and one of my favorite episodes also uses this trope in "Sliding Frasiers", a nod to the film Sliding Doors as well. Gah, and there were times when it got intense because even though these two realities were vastly different in many ways, there were key elements that were fundamentally the same and it was so interesting to see the ways this one small thing could impact two potential lives SO differently! As a twenty-nine year old myself I also feel at times like Hannah, that my life is a bit of a disaster and not sure what direction my life is heading. All I really have to do in this world is breathe in and then breathe out, in succession, until I die.

After 6 years of moving from city to city, floating from job to job since college and especially after reeling from a painful break-up, going back to L. Maybe In Another Life was a refreshingly original, uplifting, and captivating story that made my heart race, kept me glued to the page, and left me overflowing with feels. I love how Jenkins Reid ensures that the right people are in Hannah's life in both universes, at one point or another.
