About this deal

Honestly, I'm just trying to find a good set of monitors that have a bluetooth option, and paying a few bucks extra for ANC seems like a bonus.

Out of the box, the Marshall Monitor II headphones exude a premium quality, unlike very few headphones I've ever handled. As previously touched upon, should you find yourself on an awkward work day where you've simply not charged the Monitor IIs for some time - you can simply plug in your coiled cable and carry on listening to your jams (at the cost of its Active Noise Cancelling and on-headphones controls) - a simple feature that simply cannot be praised enough. Ultimately, though, it’s the slightly below-par noise cancelling that undermines these headphones’ charge to the top. The matte black metal construction, golden metallic button, and soft faux leather add up to an understated high-quality feeling — certainly higher quality than the Bose QC35 for example. I also have a set of Fostex T20s I bought in the late 1990s that I still use, although I have been through several cables on those. The entire look is matte, though there are various materials in play here—faux leather, aluminum, brass, and the added touch of a coiled audio cable running from each earcup to the headband—a design flourish that lends the headphones a retro-cool feel. Adyen is fully PCI Level 1 (the highest level) compliant and monitored by Trustwave, an ASV and a QSA for the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council.

Using the Marshall app, you can adjust the level of noise cancelling, as well as the transparency level (how much noise you allow to enter through the earcups), using sliders that go from 0 to 100%. The inside of the Monitor headband is thick, soft and very comfortable, a feature which extends to the removable ear pads. For gym-goers, there may be a hint of frustration when it comes to the Marshall Monitor II headphones not quite packing that heavy hit of bass in what should be a bass-heavy song, but Faithless fans aren't entirely robbed of bass when it's delivered in bucketloads at the halfway mark in a powerful resolution. Using the Voice Memos app on an iPhone 6s, both mics allowed us to understand every word we recorded, but the wired mic was far clearer, with fewer audio artifacts than the built-in one. Like their predecessors, the Marshall Monitor II ANCs come with a 30-hour battery life, matching that of the Sony WH-1000XM3 and easily surpassing the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700.The headphones are really well articulated, as the suspension tilts 180 degrees around the vertical axis and about 130 degrees around the horizontal axis. Following the re-release of the on-ear Marshall Major II and Marshall MID models, the Marshall Monitor is the first over-ear model to have its wires cut and finally brings Marshall's top of the line 'phones into the Bluetooth fold. I'm not clear if bluetooth and ANC are just pure add-on features with no detriment, or if each model has a truly different sound profile. The fact that the coating on the Monitor headphones isn’t real leather might be a positive for those uncomfortable with the use of animal products, but the rubber and plastic alternative that’s used doesn’t look or feel particularly premium.
