LEGO Star Wars 8088: ARC-170 Starfighter

In the core of the Arc-170 is an exceptionally clever LEGO brick engine, composed of 2 interior gears; turning it lowers/raises the wings, reminiscent of the X-Wing. Add to the fact that it has printed parts and has details almost similar to the fighter in shown in the movie, Lego has created another iconic Star Wars ship in great detail. This current model has a much longer wingspan and is overall bigger, with smaller pieces resulting in a more intricate design and tighter fit.

It's pretty darn cool, but I'd recommend, if you're giving it to someone younger than the box recommends, to have an adult handy. The bracketed stripe along the fuselage looks great and the SNOTed slopes round off the nose cleanly, unlike the older model that used sideways plates and failed miserably. The over/under connection is a fun feature but it can sort of get in the way… I’ll get back to that in a minute. The wings are also supposed to flap up and down but we can't work out how that happens although we have attached the rubber bands as it said to. The boxart is the Episode III type of boxart with lava splashing and vader's helmet at the top right corner. The there are 3 cockpits whereby the pilots sits infront and the 2 gunners sit in the compartment at the rear. The cockpit glass does not open to let the pilot out, so it need to be removed if you need to take-out the pilot.This elastic band also keeps the S-foils in open and close position tightly when the fighter is flying and making barrel rolls. I had no idea who that was to be honest, but with a name like Captain Jag I think it’s safe to assume he has the situation under control.

Speaking of the S-Foils, they work pretty much like the X-Wing sets: turn a Technic gear on the back to engage the hidden worm gear inside the ship and T-bars spread the little wings thanks to a slot in the main wing. As of today, 7261 Clone Turbo Tank is the most valuable Episode III set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of ₩1,115,050.

Behind the pilot is the hole where you insert the blue transparent 1x1 circular bricks into the bomb bay.
