I had previously been using a Novation Circuit I had, so the LP was a step up in functionality with longer patterns, probability, mutation, and more drum triggers. Disconnect the computer (if you want to), then switch between Modes for expressive and creative control of anything MIDI. The learning curve of the LP is always going to be less because it doesn’t do as much, but there are a load of great resources for both, particularly on YouTube. Launchpad Pro is the most integrated grid controller for Logic Pro, with unique access to Logic’s Live Loops.

Wherever you happen to be in the world, you can rely on a three-year warranty if any Novation hardware needs repairing or replacing due to a manufacturing fault. Cells can contain one-shots, loops, MIDI patterns and automation data, and can be dragged and dropped or recorded live into Logic’s tracks area, to build song arrangements quickly.The included Novation components software lets you drag and drop your own effects widgets onto the launchpad and configure your own performance or production setup. The LPP is more mobile… it sits on the rack to the right of the picture, so if I want to stay over there and track things into Ableton I can, and it’s cool for that.

I use it for key switch articulations in Logic, I use it for drum racks in Ableton, I use it for clip launching in both Ableton 11 and Logic 10.

I realise only 4 tracks and 32 steps but I'm only looking for a jamming or sketching tool anyway, but will it record the MIDI input from an external keyboard exactly as I play it? Update: I've now updated the quality rating as my first Launchpad had an issues with pads self-triggering after a month of use and my replacement has noticeable pads discoloration.
