Personally I am not a gin drinker, however I am an enthusiastic and attentive host and we had a birthday party at our home yesterday with over 40 adult guests for me to try these two products out on, side by side. As such, Height of Arrows Gin brings it all back to juniper, the core gin botanical, for a drinking experience that is focussed and fantastic. Holyrood Distillery is situated next to Holyrood Park, in the heart of Edinburgh’s distilling history, on St. Whisky has a vast array of flavours and we rely on distillers expertise in using just three ingredients, water, malted barley and yeast. In creating Height of Arrows we sought to create a gin that followed the same principle of utilising a few ingredients to achieve an abundance of flavour. The resulting juniper forward gin is incredibly complex while remaining beautifully smooth to drink. Much like roasting spices before cooking a curry, roasitng the juniper releases the heavy oils within the juniper to create a deep, bold and earthy style of Height of Arrows.To create Height of Arrows we have focused our production on gin’s essential botanical, juniper, with each iteration using Juniper in a different way. The challenge when making Height of Arrows for Holyrood Distillery was whether they could make a gin with a whisky maker's mindset.

Height of Arrows is a gin that allows gin fans to explore a new direction in modern gin making; one that elevates today’s gin drinking experience. It comes in a simple, uncomplicated clear glass bottle with an equally simple but beautifully printed embossed label. We couldn’t help but conclude that this is a better gin for making cocktails because it can cut through the other ingredients.
PALATE Initially oily and mouth coating with juicy and rich orange zest and lemon pith then a bold emergence of black pepper and cardamom, tempered with tapered herbaceous smoothness. We have not served proper alcohol at a party in some time with obvious concerns about drivers and nobody taking risks with their lives and licences, however we were careful not to put anyone in a difficult or compromising position in this regard. The challenge for us when making Height of Arrows was whether we could make a gin with a whisky maker's mindset. The _ga cookie, installed by Google Analytics, calculates visitor, session and campaign data and also keeps track of site usage for the site's analytics report. Sea Salt acts as a natural flavour enhancer, imparting depth and layers, while beeswax creates a unique oily texture.
Just like roasted coffee, we tested our juniper at different roast levels until we found the perfect balance of sweet and bitter.Made just down the road, the Height of Arrows gin from Holyrood distillery strips gin to its core, celebrating the flavour and complexity of juniper.
