For unlike the Game Boy Color version, the game kicks off with Harry already at Hogwarts, and with some fast learning to do. Storywise, whole chapters of the books like the Norbert Quest that were completely ignored in the films was made into one of the coolest quests in the whole game! There's some Quidditch and broomstick flying involved, but the controls for this were rubbish and made these parts a bit of a chore to play.

This effect lasts until you switch spells once more or enter a different room, though this effect is impossible to apply to Lumos' colour.In the case of prefects however, they will deduct points afterwards via them discovering Harry if he happens to cast a spell on them, since they'll by default use the unique student-quotes before speaking a prefect quote (though some prefects will deduct house points twice through this). Utilising the GBA Link, Game Boy Advance players can hook into their Game Cube game, transferring maps, magical items and secret spells for added value. Based on the 1997 novel of the same name, the player controls Harry Potter, who must navigate his first year in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and eventually confront the villainous Lord Voldemort. In all, the game lasts around 6 hours, as long as players don't get stuck in any of the dungeons for too long.

There are a number of little sub-games which have to be completed to progress through the story, but unfortunately these all tend to be of the same kind - mostly sneaking around corridors without getting caught by Prefects, Snape or Filch. This game follows the plot of 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets', so if you've read the book and/or seen the film, you'll find it all quite straightforward - and it's not very difficult anyway. And as Harry, you'll experience the daring and fun of life at Hogwarts, as well as the awesome responsibility of finally finding the Philosopher's Stone and challenging He-Who-Cannot-Be-Named. You certainly can't accuse the developers of trying to short-change the fans, as it seems they've tried to cram as much of the film into the game.In this version of the game, Harry gets caught by Professor Snape instead of Filch, and Harry's detention in the forest isn't the same as the book or movie. The novel's first 100 pages — covering the giant Rubeus Hagrid leaving the orphaned infant Harry Potter with his maternal aunt's family, Harry's invitation to attend the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and his sorting into the Gryffindor house — are summarized in a storybook-like introduction.
