About this deal

Cemetery Dance also posted a review, stating that it was "A genre mash-up that easily captivates its audience but struggles to utilize that up-front investment to maintain interest. Footage discovered from a reality show filmed aboard the Aurora showed that the deceased had experienced visual and auditory hallucinations, as well as paranoia. Boarding the ship, it quickly becomes evident that something had gone horribly wrong aboard the Aurora. Dead crew and passengers and the unavoidable feelings of dread affect all of Claire's team, including Claire herself.

After unhooking the blue tether from the beacon structure, I reattach the far end to the designated loop on my suit. This book has one of my favorite beginnings, where you learn from the start that something’s gone wrong, but don’t know all of the details. I liked the aspect of a person who see’s ghost everyday talking and teaching others about how to deal with seeing ghost. Once aboard, Claire discovers that Kane is still alive, as he had sequestered himself in a makeshift padded room that he claims dampens vibrations he says causes hallucinations.I like SciFy horror usually (horror is one of those genres I can sometimes handle but other times is just too much for me) and this book is asking to be put on my TBR. I wasn’t expecting this to be my first person POV— in Claire’s mind— but I got used to it pretty quick. it's a whizz-bang adventure story about a beacon-repair crew on the tail-end of their final mission, after which machines will take over the work from humans like some futuristic version of the industrial revolution. I completely agree that it didn’t feel like it was ripping off other stories at all but still had enough to draw comparisons; I’ve never seen Event Horizon but I watched Ghost Ship a ton and definitely saw the similarities!

I will say that this author did SO GOOD at writing dialogue where the characters were frustrating each other and MY GOD FRUSTRATING ME ! A. Barnes ended up being a huge letdown after all the reviews saying how scary it is, creepy, and being dubbed “the ultimate haunted house story in space” by critics. For some it'll mean new opportunities, but for the team lead, Claire Kovalik, it'll mean a desk job.

The characters I only liked to characters and just barely I wanted more backstory, ad the book does a horrible job at making them different personalities at the being.

If you’re a scaredy cat like me and want to try your hand at a horror book, this is definitely a great one to start with. The story goes back and forth in time, from the current timeline when Claire is in the Verux Tower talking to two of her company superiors, and two months prior, when she was finishing the job with her team.I really enjoyed the characters within this book, however one thing that I felt stopped me from connecting to some of them is the fact that while our main character is telling us this story there are a few ‘present day’ chapters which essentially tells us who lives and who dies… so that for me took away some of the mystery and it stopped me from connecting to certain characters because I knew what was going to happen.
