About this deal

Listen, mister city guard, I’m not trying to get philosophical here, but if the city of thieves’ own law enforcers are thieves, then who are the thieves? and also (79) and (88)) The Serpent Queen's "poisonous fangs" inflict the normal 2 stamina points of injury (though at least in (79) and (88) when she bites you just before the fight she does inflict 1 skill and 4 stamina points of injury). Bidding my semi-naked friend a fond farewell, I went to a nearby stall and bought up everything they had for sale. Der schreckliche Zanbar Bone bedroht die Einwohner des heimeligen Örtchens, in dem du auf deiner Reise Rast eingelegt hast. It seems that the wize old sage Nicodemus knows exactly how to slay Zanzar Bone, so I’ll need to talk with him.

This part shows up a lot of the weaknesses of the Fighting Fantasy format - you're often left with a list of options, and nothing to go on in choosing which one to take other than guesswork, and if you choose the wrong one. The villains you face aren't too hard/numerous to defeat compared to some of the other books, and even if you get lost in some of the maze-like sections, the book will usually get you back to where you need to be. There are also lots and lots of situations that need to be handled carefully, with one wrong move leading to possible death or the failure of the mission. I have a toddler that takes up most of my time when I get home from work, and this series has been a fun way to relax at night and read/play for a little while before going to bed.I chopped him in two, and took his gold, some garlic, and some knuckle bones he happened to be carrying for some reason. I've still awarded 5 stars, because Port Blacksand itself is so intriguing and evocative and the bulk of the book is magnificent, the very best a gamebook can be. On my first attempt, I found most of the items I needed, but lacked one item, so I couldn't go on to the endgame. This reference is newly illustrated, the Puffin/Wizard versions not having an equivalent piece of artwork.

I liked the design of the book better - discovering the city, in general, was a lot more interesting than what the previous entry offered. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Technology by the University of Abertay Dundee in 2000, and in 2002 received the BAFTA Special Award for his outstanding contribution to the interactive entertainment industry. And the artwork of Iain McCaig is some of the best in the entire series (I do wish he'd have drawn stuff for more books). There's quite a few places where you need a fair amount of luck, and a good assortment of characters to interact with.City of thieves is another great story by ian Livingstone where the reader decides the ending by picking hich page to turn to, it is a bit like a computer game i a book but much ore fun for children to read than stick withese eyes attached to a computer screen. Having to pick the right mixture after Nicodemus' senior moment adds uncertainty but it's just a guess. The full-page illustrations in the book were accompanied with a caption giving a short extract from the text.

So you've trawled all the way through the book to find you have a totally random 2 in 3 chance of failing for no fault of your own. One of the things I want to mention is the artwork of Iain McCraig, which to me is perfect for this story; it is fantastical, whimsical, and just a bit dark, with many delightful details for the attentive viewer to pick up. Unfortunately for all, Nicodemus lives in a wretched hive of scum and villainy, Port Blacksand – also known as the CITY OF THIEVES!I guess it is reflective of our desire to see and compartmentalise the world into black and white as opposed to the shade of grey that exists in. Sourbelly is Ivy's brother and she expresses much pride in her brother's career as a city guard of Port Blacksand. Originally published by Puffin Books in 1983, the title is the fifth gamebook in the Fighting Fantasy series. The book is full of traps and often times there is no way to know which outcome is favorable and which - not. There's not much point in playing these unless you're going to be *mostly* honest, and if you are, they're pretty good fun.
