Besides being exhaustive, this book is aggressively objective in a manner that I fast grew to appreciate. It is laudably clear; it is admirably placed for effect within the text (you'll have to trust me on that one); but it doesn't rise as high into the rhetorical clouds as Author Tore's book does. This volume would make an excellent textbook and a splendid introduction to the world of the Vikings for any reader. To be frank, this is one of the best books on the Vikings I've ever read and that is for many reasons.
