Although legendary Swiss metal band Celtic Frost disbanded in 2008, a new expansive vinyl box set entitled Danse Macabre will see the light of day on November 25th, 2022. The thing that’s most important during these years that stuck in my mind is the camaraderie between us. I guess that makes this one more unique, but personally I'd have preferred all Vinyls in this set to reflect the original tracklistings, still a fantastic box set regardless.

Ahead of the release of an era-spanning box set for extreme metal ground-breakers Celtic Frost, famed frontman Tom G. It’s easy to see this as one of the most important ur-documents of black metal after the first two Bathory albums and Venom’s honourable mention for naming the whole shebang, and that’s before we get to its foundational status in the soon to emerge death metal genre. Released last week (we unboxed it in the runup), this best of a box includes Celtic Frost’s first two albums, first two EPs, and a set of rehearsal tracks from back in the day. There’s definitely a more atmospheric and experimental sound as the tracks progress, perhaps heading towards the sound that Fischer and Ain envisioned when they first sat down to plot Celtic Frost’s future one night in 1984. There’s no denying the Black Sabbath influence (but, hell, what band wasn’t influenced by the Black Country’s favourite sons? As we became a little more mature, we felt it was problematic, and I have to say this still applies.
