Bird Feeder Seed Catcher Tray Attachment

Medium tray that attaches to all Droll Yankees tubular bird feeders and some other brands with threaded plug. The only other point to note is that it’s super-important to keep the tray clean to prevent harmful bacteria taking hold in the seed waste. I worry that it will just fall off and maybe even that birds could fly into whatever I use to hang it there (was currently thinking about some way to make fishing wire more noticeable to a bird). A lip at the edge of the tray keeps seed hulls contained, and drainage holes enable water to exit the item.

It can act as a seed catcher, but also, you can fill it with seed and use it as an attractive seed tray, with lots of perching space, to attract more birds in.This means less seed and waste on the ground below the feeder, but it’s very important to note that waste should not be allowed to accumulate on the tray which must be regularly cleaned. All our ingredients are carefully sourced where possible from the UK to ensure the best quality wild bird food. These are hung from a chain from my tree branches, I also have a suet feeder and a fat ball feeder and these are hung from the tree with 30lb fishing braid, the braid stops the squirrel from getting to the suet and fat ball feeders. This has greatly reduced the number of finches, tits and sparrows visiting, so the tray has had to be removed.

Our seed tray is designed for use with our Ultimate and Classic feeders, but will fit other feeders with a 20mm screw thread in the base. Though I had to wait three months for the arrival of the Big Easy Seed Tray it was well worth the wait. Can anyone recommend a bird feeder with a catch tray that is also only for small birds and "squirrel proof".

I’ve currently removed it in favour of allowing the seed to drop to the pavings where it can be scooped up by the larger birds. Check every day and use a mild soap to wash them every week or two depending on how many visitors there are. All bird feeders including this tray need to be cleaned regularly especially in damp, wet, hot or humid weather. The bonus is that we now are getting 3 or 4 small birds sitting on the saucer at a time and not flapping around to get at the food.
