About this deal

I really prefer a placement closer to the center because I often delicately remove carrier while holding sleeping baby and this makes it a bit tough if I am using my left hand.

Size and weight limit: your baby will fit and be safe if she weighs anywhere between 7 and 35 pounds. There was a time when for some reason I did not notice that I did not buckle up the waistband properly and when I wanted to unbuckle I found that it still was not opening without pressing the safety button. But during my pregnancy, I didn’t factor in things that would eventually shatter that daydream, like his high birth weight and light hip dysplasia, or my painful C-section and never-ending back pain. Sometimes it could be tricky to unbutton but after some getting used to you do it quickly and easily. The Beco Gemini is Beco’s first baby carrier with the option to front carry as a facing-out carrier. It has wide padded shoulder straps, that you can wear backpack style or crossed on your back for discrete breastfeeding and better weight distribution. It supposedly is made so that the hip buckle is on the side not at the back but it does not end up working that way for most moms. Manufacturers will often indicate that carriers can be used for heavier children, as they have been safety tested at these weights, but this may not reflect the actual sizing and comfort of the carriers at those weights.

This isn't really a criticism as part of the appeal of this carrier is that it is smaller and the reason it works really well for newborns (or babies in the 2-3 month age range who are often between settings in a lot of other carriers) is because it is a smaller carrier. Please note there is no NZ safety standard for baby carriers, so we carefully select our carriers that meet the USA and/or the European standard. You can position your baby in the normal front facing in position, or facing out, or in a hip carry or in a back carry. I still really have to focus when I get bub into back carry mode but that’s probaby because I don’t put her in the back much and haven’t developed a rhythm. The Gemini, however, defies classification into one of these two groups because it has firm, thick padding at the waist band but soft light padding at the shoulder straps.
